This is the latest generation of energy saving televisions, we have had it a fortnight after waiting 2 months for them to come into the country, got our from costco as they have the 5 year granatee and the cast iron return poilcy plus they where the cheapest at under £1350. It is really light to carry and amazing thin under 3 cm , the brochure in comparision is very comprehehensive and large although in reality it is a breeze to set up and scanns for the channels we where watching it within 5 minutes, both freeeview, dvd player and sky.
The picture will blow you away, there are plenty of 7000 series to see on currys but this is the 8000, different beast, it is a lot more geared up to access the internet and steam, plus it is very low energy.On standaby it is something like 0.1watts The definition is amazing although most of the transmitted hd material is not in the same spec as the tv can handle but it is future proofed and up scales it very effectively.
The sound is good but not mind blowing, but if you have a surround sound and blue ray you will be sorted.( on my list of purchases to make ) The remote is insinctive but rather odd to hold and stangely stylized I think you either love or hate this, I am undecided at the moment, they also give you a mini pebble sized remote for on of and channel up and down , it has freeview and picture in side the tv guide so you can view the guide highlight programmes and still continue to watch the programme you are watching. You can touch around the edge of the screen to control the tv as well, you can just see under the surround the channel volume on of etc, but it is very subtle and very sexy

Interstingly, the screen does not seem to get dusty like old cathode ray tvs, , it does not have the static on the screen,although extreme care must be taken with the screen only damp water wiing with a very fine cloth such as a microfibre, which they supply, so no special solvents...excellent

...However resolution isnt everything. The Samsung UE40B8000 has a great color contrast! Most buyers tend to not notice color quality. It is always important to view the TV such as this in a store before purchasing it online. I suggest viewing the screen, moving to a screen with a lower color contrast and then moving back. Suddenly you will feel as if the other TV was color drained as much as possible. Its a simple technique and helps you realise where ... ...very realiable and durable.
Once complaint I have about the samsung range is the speed of the user interface. The samsung screens tend to be slow at switching through channels in freeview. This isnt much of an issue however can get irritating when you are trying to "channel surf". ...

Spoke to Samsung and complained that this was a £1000 TV and I was not happy that it is not working.
Samsung replied that they sold the warrantly to Currys and that they take no reponsibily for any parts or faults. I replied that the TV was faulty and shodily made. They replied that it is not there problem, talk to Currys. Currys told me to call Samsung! or get a TV engineer out at £150 to make a report which they would then consider. ...

Advantages: Very slim tv and pc connectivity is a great adavantage to increase choice of media available Disadvantages: If you are not good with technology, may need nephew or niece to help you out.
...to tell the difference between Samsung 8000 series and plasma tv. I love the Internet@TV - Content Service, I regularly use it to go onto YouTube. Navigation is easy and simple using widgets from the TV's remote .
I have connected my pc using the wireless option (or you can plug it directly) which enables streamed access to photos, music and movies.
