I like this camcorder, it's compact, easy to use and the mono viewfinder picture is easily adjustable via a thumb dial so I can use the viewfinder with or without my glasses. I bought mine from Jessops and paid £289.99.
Since purchasing the camcorder just over a month ago I've been like a kid with a new toy. I noticed that the battery that comes with it lasts longer than the tape that doesn't, and that the longer it's being used, the warmer the LCD section gets. The picture in the LCD viewfinder was not very easy for me to see when I was filming outdoors in normal daylight. It improved a little when the sky became overcast, but not much.
The camcorder connects to my PC via Firewire and the picture quality on my 28" tv screen is almost excellent. Colours are vibrant while still managing to keep natural looking skintones in normal daylight. Shot indoors under tungston lighting though, the picture is grainy with blue speckles. I was also able to shoot in a darkened room with only moonlight shining through the curtains, footage had a definate green cast but was clear. The camcorder has various effects that I have never used and probably never will but they would be handy to someone without a computer. The camcorder is capable of recording in 16bit stereo and will take an external microphone.
The model I have (and it is DEFINATELY a VP D101) has no remote control and no remote sensor. (I filled in the section for remote control because I couldn't have submitted this review otherwise.)
Samsung is looking to replicate its success in the analogue camcorder market place with the introduction of this entry-level camcorder, the VP-D10. It features Easy Q and Custom Q and is ideal for those who are just beginning to move into the digital market. Capture that special moment with a Samsung camcorder!
