I paid less than £300 for this camcorder and was expecting a basic Mini DV camcorder on par with a cheap Sony. What I found was pleasantly surprising. The quality of picture was very good and as good as any other 800,000 pixel cam. The sound is also very good and the unit is as small as any regular Mini DV. It even came with four different types of output leads to connect to the tv which made it very easy to watch stuff on the box since I could plug it in to one of the front sockets.

What also amazed me was that it had night capture, the quality of which was also very good. The optical zoom was upto x10 and not x22 which I read on the website I bought it from but the speed and quality of the zoom was again very good. In fact the only complaint I have with it is the battery life. Although it charges quite quickly it only lasts for 2 hrs recording at most. Time enough for a whole tape on the slower speed but still, if you’re going outside on a trip or something you’d expect a little more.

The digital zoom is x440 I think. I’ve only used this a few times because, as with all camera’s it obscures the quality of picture too much.

Unlike many high end cams though it doesn’t come with PC software or support but I really haven’t explored alternative methods of PC transfer but know a friend who recommended the cam to me that he does very frequently so it can’t be that difficult to track down some software for it.

Overall, a good little buy. It’s the cheapest digi camcorder I could find with those specs and a relatively reliable brand behind it with the added plus of having a lot more functions than a £600 sony or other manufacturer.
