Ok, so I really wanted to buy a plasma screen, I would have settled for a LCD and I really didn't want to have to build a annex for the installation of a standard 32" CRT TV.

Unfortunately I had to face reality - I couldn't afford either of the first two options, and would have to build that new room for that 32" CRT.

Or did I? After trawling through various online and local superstores I came across the perfect alternative - a CRT with Samsung's new slimfit technology. The depth of the TV is roughly a third less than that of a normal CRT and the price is not massively elavated for the privilege - I payed £450 from an online store.

I have had the TV now for 9 months, and have had no problems, the menu systems are easy to navigate and the picture quality is great. (Before purchasing I did check a few reviews and these suggested that the TV had geometry problems, i.e things would look distorted at the edges, however if there are I can't see them!)

It also benefits from a flat picture tube which means that the picture's colours are more natural and the brightness and contrast are better calibrated.

Also the TV features nano-pigment tecnology reinforcing the benefits of the flat picture tube.

The sound options (virtual dolby sound system) allow for excellent sound quality and manipulation which engross you in almost any scenario of film or television viewing.

All in all I am very pleased with my puchase, and wholeheartedly recommend the TV not only for its space saving abilities, but also because of the other featured of the TV which compare favourably to the other bulkier CRT TVs on the market.

At the minute I thinkthe HD ready is a bit of a con as there is very little transmitten on HD. Mark

What about resolution, contrast ratio, brightness? Any special features, like comb filtering or digital picture processing? What about connectivity?

I think I would wait and save up for a plasma screen.
