Advantages: Easy menu system, cheap price Disadvantages: Odd track sorting, various technical faults experienced
My big gripe with this model is the faults that it has developed durng my time using it. However I'll go over my experiences using the player and it's other features before I describe these.

First appearances: When I first opened up the box, the player struck me as a fairly stylish and compact jukebox for the cheap price I bought it at. The part-metal outer construction seemed pretty solid and the buttons were of good quality, not seeming loose or fragile. The YH-920 took about 5 hours to fully charge the first time around.
Ease of use: Being impatient, I skipped the instructions and got straight into exploring the functions of the YH-920. Now this player has very few actual buttons - one 4-way pad beneath the screen operates the menu system, and is very simple to pick up. Within a couple of minutes, I had worked out how to operate the YH-920 pretty much fully, so ten out of ten in the user-friendly stakes. The one time I had to refer to the instructions was to find out about actually putting music on my player via Napster - basically this entails transferring Mp3s across to Napster, and then from there to the YH-920. Rather long-winded and unnessecary in my view, though I am told there are other ways of transferring without Napster. Using Napster however, you can still use all your existing music files and won't have to buy them again through Napster.
Quality/functionality: The YH-920 provies all the features you'd generally expect or want from this class of Mp3 player. Repeat one/all, skip & FFW etc. It also comes with a voice recording microphone which I never found useful, and can pick up FM radio. The sound quality was always prefectly fine to me until I upgraded to the new 30GB iPod video - the sound on this is just so much richer. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the Samsung's sound, but I can't help comparing it with my new player which really is better than anything else I've heard. The battery life was average to begin with but did seem to deteriorate with use.
Problems: This is what pulls my opinion of the YH-920 down. I first bought this player in April 2005 from eBay (to be clear - a reputable seller, I have no qualms with them) for £120 - the cheapest you could find a 20GB player anywhere, by £50 or £60 at least. It was brand new when I recieved it, but was malfunctioning within a week. I would turn the player on, and hear it boot up, only to find nothing on the screen. I tried resetting it and turning it on again, but only every so often would it actually come on.
After giving it a few weeks and a few charge-drain cycles to bed it in I sent it back and was issued a replacement in June. This new one seemed fine. But again I encountered problems, this time three or four months into use. The player would skip to random tracks mid-tune, freeze and need resetting (not always to come back on again either) and sometimes just stop playing. It would also often become slow to respond to commands, similar to how a computer bogged-down with programs slows down. And it was only half full (9GB). I still have the unit here as it's out of warranty I think, and haven't used it since December.
Overall: Purely as an Mp3 player, for the money it's certainly the best I could find for value. Cheap for the 20GB hard drive, and offers some features that more expensive alternatives don't (or didn't at the time of buying). However my experiences with two seperate units have really damaged my opinion on the YH-920. In reality, I've probably had the two duds in a thousand models, but it has pulled my rating of the player down alot. Purely on merit of it's functionality I'd recommend it to anybody, but I can't do that simply because of what I see as dodgy reliability at best. And that's a shame.
Advantages: Styling, Menu System, Blue Backlight, FM Radio, 20GB, Battery Time Disadvantages: Napster Software, Alphabetical Album Track Listings
I think that the Samsung YH-920 is a great MP3 player and I would recommend it to all.
It is quite lightweight (150g) and is a reasonable size which fits in my pocket (61.5 x 106.8 x 16.6mm) without being bulky.
I love the way it has been styled with the grey/silver alluminium and plastic complimented with the electric blue backlight. The backlight is a must in dark places which enables you to see the screen and looks nice. This light does however ... ...it off when you don't need it. The time the light stays on can be altered.
It is also easy to use as there are few buttons but still do all the jobs you want them to do. There is the main square button on the front to scroll threw the menus and turn up the volume. There is the the play/pause button which is also the on/off button when held down. And there are the buttons for the next track and the previous track which when held is also the fast ...

Advantages: A stylish and affordable mp3 player. Disadvantages: May disrupt your life.
...I found it odd that Samsung had let Napster brand their new fancy mp3 gadget. But sure enough, they were in cahoots from the start. Not only did the package come with a free CD of Napster's newest software, but this new software was the ONLY software designed to sync music to the YH-920. I really didn't feel like changing from my favourite media player (WinAmp at the time) to this crumby thing... It was all a big scam!
I calmed down though, and ... ...of you have ever used Samsung customer service, but it's terrible. Not just mp3 players, but fridges too in my experience have been terribly hard to repair. Anyway- I was on holiday, and I left the charger and dock in a hotel room. The next day I was 300 miles down the road with no charger and no battery left for my music... Conundrum. When I got home it took a while to find the customer careline, and when I got it it took 4 calls, £40, 3 wrong parts, ...

Advantages: 20 gigs, dictaphone, pretty cheap Disadvantages: bad menu system, radio reception poor, very bad bundled software
Firstly, let me set the record straight. You do not need the bundled napster software in order to load songs onto this machine. Many reviews claim that you do. The manual pretty much claims that this is the only way, its not a manual really but an advert for napsters subscription service.
I'd recommend that you do not install the napster application unless you plan on using napster to purchase and download music files. Yes, purchase, this is not ... ...many online music catalogues. Even if you plan on buying music on the net, maybe napster isn't the best service. Shop around, do a little research. One application that I know will work with this mp3 player is Windows Media Player. You cannot drag and drop mp3s you will need to use WMP to copy the files for you.
Now that i've told you it does actually work I should get on with the review..

Advantages: Added Extras, Great Price, Good Storage Space Disadvantages: Radio is a little crackely, but this is nothing too serious
I have owned my Samsung YH-920 since October 2004. Originally I bought a 20GB Ipod and it was dead on arival, I exchanged it for another Ipod and again it broke within 10 days of owning it. This little gem was on offer at the time for the amazing price of £179, and absolute bargain compared to the £219 I paid for my Ipod of exactly the same size. Plus the fact that the Samsung came with a case, docking station, radio and remote control all extras ... ...sides. A large LCD screen and a square button in the centre to navigate. The look is fairly simple, but not quite as boring as the Ipod.
ADVANTAGES:-
1. What a bargain, compaired to other Mp3 players of the same price range (Ipod Mini, Zen Micro, Rio Carbon) i got 20 GB of storage instead of 4 or 5 GB, can't go wrong!
2. The Dock, Case and Radio are also great features, so what if the radio reception is often a bit poor, at least it comes with ...

Advantages: 20gb,small, light, pretty, blue light! Disadvantages: Case that comes with it
Hello.
I got this mp3 player for Christmas and I already love it!
Its small, about the same size as 'the i-pod' perhaps not as wide, and a tad bit thicker.
It has 20gb which is loads of room.
It's mainly silver with the edges being white, and it has a large multi function button on the front, this controls the picking and choosing of songs, and the volume, there are also 3 buttons on the side which turns the device on and off, pauses the songs ... ...previous song.
It has a large screen which is easy to read, and is lit by a blue light which I must say is very nice.
It also has a slidey button on the top, which is the hold button so you don’t press any buttons accidentally whilst it’s in your pocket.
The device comes supplied with headphones, which are of a good quality, a docking station that you can charge your player up from, and it comes in handy so keep your player safe.
A carry case ...

Advantages: Stylish, Cheaper than iPod, versatile (Line-in cd to MP3 convertion!) Disadvantages: Software (Napster - don't go there!) Great once sorted.
The current iPod stranglehold is not about to be released too easily, especially as humans resemble sheep so readily in their dogged determination not to stand out from the crowd!
That's why I looked around good and hard for an alternative.
My reasoning was that there must be manufacturers absolutely desperate to perform a flying leap up onto the iPod bandwagon and if they wanted to have a prayer of receiving some of the vast disposable income sloshing around these days (there has to be, judging by the amount of 'gadget magazines' making a living!), then they had better have a lot to offer to steal some of Apple's thunder.
The SamsungYH-920-GS does this to some extent but it's not plain sailing by any degree!
First things first, they teamed up with Napster for this one. (I think they have quietly downgraded the connection ...
Advantages: Quick to upload music Disadvantages: Very unreliable
A few years ago i made the mistake of not buying an ipod mini and going for the samsungyh-920. At first i was very impressed by the mp3 as it took no time at all for the software to load to the computer and put the music onto the ipod. I also was imprssed with the price of £120 from ebay which was £10 cheaper than the ipod mini at the time. However, after a few weeks, problems started to occur. When you turned it on it would turn on but the screen and music would not. There would just be a quiet wizzing noise. Also the napster website was very slow and was difficult to link to the mp3 player. I investigated the problem of it not turning on on the internet an found that if you pressed the napster logo below the screen when pressing the on button this would help. I tried it and reliability improved slightly but it still did not turn ...
Advantages: Small-ish, cheaper than an iPod, just as good! Disadvantages: Awful software included
I recieved this for christmas and wasnt sure what to expect, i knew it would be good because its Samsung and ive only ever had good experiences with them, but i didnt expect it to be this good!
The battery is fine, not quite iPod level, but easily good enough! The memory is perfect, keeps the prices down but is still easily big enough and the unit size it great, a bit bigger than an iPod but for the money, not the brick i expected! The interface is incredibly easy to use, many of my friends have just picked it up and used it straight away, accesing all the features it has to offer with no trouble, even my mum and dad could use it!! Also, despite the bad start of 3 hours, the battery has improved beyone my wildest dreams...after a few complete discharges then overnight charges, it has recovered to at least 10 hours, maybe more ...
