I recently bought this MP3 player for my boyfriend for his birthday but I feel able to write a review on it as I set it up and put all the songs on and have used it also.
We were looking for a new MP3 player as the old cheap one we had had busted. When looking for the new one we looking at 1GB as this is about 500 songs and is more than enough, USB chargeable, and able to get music from sites and CD's and a decent playback time.
My boyfriend had set his heart on one but I was unable to get it and when browsing through the Argos catalogue he saw this one and decided that it looked better and would like it. It was advertised at £59.99 which
I felt was a little steep for a 1Gb but as we had some Argos vouchers to put towards it I didn't mind. I went down to our local Argos and it was in-stock and only £49.99 which was a result.
It came in a small but well packaged box which when you open it the first thing you see is the small and very attractive MP3 player. It comes with headphones, USB lead, instruction guide and CD.
The MP3 player is very sleek and fancy looking. It is only about 1cm thick and the size of a 10 pack of ciggies!! (3.5inch x 1.45inch) I was very impressed when I took it out the box. The front is all black and all you can see is the screen which is greyer and about just under the half of the size of the whole MP3.
I had to charge the MP3 up for a bit to be able to turn it on the first time but it didn't take too long before I could switch it on (luckily as I just wanted to play with it!). The manual says apprx 4 hours to fully charge and I would say this is about right.
You can use the disc which came with the player which has Samsung music suite to get songs onto it but I use Real Player and I know how this works so I just plugged in the USB cable (2.0) and went straight to Real Player to transfer the music. It transfers very quickly - an album with 13 songs took about 30 secs to transfer which I think is very fast.
To turn it on there is a small slide button on the side which you slide down and hold, the screen and buttons then light up and it brings you the main menu.
It is a touch screen MP3 and you only see the buttons when they glow up when you use them. To avoid you switching tracks etc whilst in your pocket you can lock the keypad by pushing up and locking the on/off button.
The main menu consists of Music, FM Radio, photos and settings which you scroll through using the left and right buttons. It comes with 3 songs and 15 pictures on it so you get an idea of what it can do.
To select music you tap the circle button in the middle you then have the choice of artists, albums, tracks, genres or playlists - which it sorts out when you put the music on there. You then select what you want to listen to. On the screen the track and artist information scrolls across and you can choose either an amplifier or picture to "dance" to the music. It also includes the track time and battery life.
The sound quality is very good and you can easily control the volume by the up and down keys on the front. The buttons glow when in use but the lights go off after about 30 seconds of not using them, you just have to tap the screen to get them back up if you wish.
The radio is FM and easy to set up you can auto set up or manual set up the channels by a short or long tap on the left/right keys. It picks up a wide range of channels.
I haven't really used the photo part but I have looked at the photos on there and they are of a good quality, but we didn't buy the MP3 to put photos on so I guess this is just an added bonus if slightly unnecessary feature for us.
In setting you can change the display, time (you can have a clock on the screen), language and system.
The headphones are the in your ear type and seem of a good quality. The lead is long enough for you to put the MP3 in your trouser pocket.
The playback time is stated as up to 20 hours but to be honest I haven't given it the chance to get that low yet as when a few bars go we plug it in to charge. It will be coming on holiday with us soon though so perhaps I will update the review with how well it lasts then.
As stated I got the player in Argos for £49.99 I think for what we've got it is great value and to me it looks a more expensive than that.
I would recommend this MP3 as it looks sleek and stylish, is easy to use and has great sound quality and playback time.
