Early last year, a friend of mine purchased the earlier model of this particular MP3 player (YP-K5) and seemed very impressed by it so I decided to purchase this newer model once it came out. And for the most part, I'm glad I did.
Overall, I am also very impressed by the Samsung YP-S5. The design is sleek and modern and the buttons (while confusing to begin with) are simple and easy to use. Regarding the buttons, as I have never owned a touch screen device or one with touch sensitive areas, it is a tad strange using the buttons and having no tactile feedback. That said, if you are familiar with that kind of input method, feel free to ignore the previous sentence.
With so few MP3 players around with built in speakers, it's a nice change to be able to play audio out loud. It's also very simple to do so. While listening to music or watching a video, all you have to do is slide out the speaker and the audio will immediately play through the speakers. The sound quality from the built in speakers is superb, as is the sound quality from the earphones that come with the MP3 player itself.
I've only really experienced two problems with the Samsung YP-S5. Firstly, the visualisations that play while a song is playing are very sluggish and are no where near as smooth as they are on the K5. And lastly, the software provided to allow transfer of media to and from the device tends to crash a lot. This could be a problem with Windows Vista compatibility but I thought I'd make people aware of it.
Despite these problems, I'd still recommend the Samsung YP-S5. It is a good, solid and well designed MP3 player that you won't regret buying.
