Having received this as a gift last Christmas, I've always been sceptical about carrying my personal documentation around with me, but the U3 software that comes with this allayed all of my fears. For anyone who hasn't researched, its software inbuilt by SanDisk and helps take care of your documents security by encrypting it with a password to avoid access being gained by anyone who isn't authorised to use it. How it works is by it being partitioned with the main partition loading first and gaining you access. If you need a password you can set that up in the security feature like I did.
What's even better though is the way that it manages itself. Like the windows start menu, the SanDisk drive also has this and allows you to gain access to your documents through this. There are also mini programmes that you can download such as pocket Mozilla and Skype which are then loaded onto the SanDisk reader. This is particularly useful because you can effectively carry your own internet browser around with you for example and run it off any computer meaning its set up as you want it with you favourites and history all running off of it. For example I use it at home, go into work and load it up and use it there, and all of my history, favourites and settings are exactly the way that I want them. An example such as Skype is that, if your work PC such as mine doesn't have it preinstalled, as you're taking it with you, not only are you avoiding the hassle of installing it and ruining the computer settings of another computer or leaving personal usernames on there, you don't with this device as it's all preset and run solely off of the USB drive.
Other helpful features are the light on the side which shows when you're sending data back and fore to it. it flashes intermittently when data is being transferred so you know when or not its copying information. The U3 software also makes it idiot-proof to accidentally remove it by allowing you to dismount the drive from its menu before disconnecting. Handy for example if you don't know how to do it on another computer. You can also play games on it which come preinstalled and the menu also shows what capacity you have left.
Personally, I love the menu option as it simplifies things but even if you are an advanced user and/or don't wish to have this software, there's the option to turn it off and run it like a normal drive.
Other basic advantages are that it's slim and sleek in appearance. The only downside so far is that the key ring bit that you use to connect it to your key ring isn't the strongest you'll find and mine broke fairly easy just from having it attached to my keys in my pocket. This is easily counteracted by going to your local key cutting shop and buying something more durable for a minimal price, or improvising at home. It's very small so ideally it can even fit into your wallet or purse with it being barely noticed. Finally 16GB is a phenomenal size. It's more than what most people require and i find that, as I only use it for word processing documents and a few excel and PowerPoint presentations, the extra space allows me the freedom to make use of the U3 software fully.
In a nutshell, it's durable, easy to use, flexible with software and an overall joy to use. Faultless and reliable too.
