I purchased this from memorycardzoo some 6 months ago for £35 after doing some research. i didnt want an expensive player as it could get damaged/lost, so took the plunge. For the £35 price tag you get the player itself, which is shaped in a semi cylindrical shape, a pair of white Sandisk branded headphones, a plastic cover and elasticated strap to attach to your arm (when excercising) the usual cable and cd with drivers.
The player itself has the usual buttons to play/pause, next track, previous track, ability to repeat, and a large white button i the middle that acts like the execute button. On the sides, there are the on/off button (long press to switch off) and the volume up and down switch. On the other side is the hold button, which stops the buttons functioning, and also the Microphone point. Plugging the MP3 player into a usb port will allow drag and drop, or using Windows Media Player to auto sync the player with music files. The player will accept MP3 and WMA (these are the only formats I use) With WMA files, I have achieved approx 350 tracks on the 1GB memory.
Playing time on a single AAA battery is approx 15 -18 hours, which is pretty good. Sandisk would have done better by building in a rechargable battery into this player. However, having a changable battery makes it more flexible if you're away from a computer for a long time. The battery cover is a little flimsy for my liking. Don't get me wrong, it won't fall off, but i would keep the player in the supplied plastic cover jus to be safe. The screen on this has an electro illuminescent screen, which makes it very easy to read in the dark. This can be set to switch off after a set period of time (which the user can select), or on/off permanently.
The menu on this player is fairly simple to use. The player allows the user to select how they want to play the music. You have the ability to play music by either Artist, Album, Song, Genre of music (need to have the tags set up on music for this), Playlist, Spoken Word and Recordings. Other options on the main menu include the settings, which, when the user goes through, does pretty much what it says on the tin. The supplied headphones are fairly good quality bud type headphones, but, as with all MP3 players, its best to purchase a better pair to fully appreciate the music being played. The cable supplied to attch the player to a computer is a little short, but easily sorted with a USB extension.
The elasticated strap and plastic holder allow the user to attach the player to their upper arm. I found that using this made my fingers go numb, as if you leave the elasticated strap too loose, the player would start to slide down the arm towards the elbow. All in all, from the past 6 months, I have to say this is a very good player, for both the first time user, and the experienced user, and for the prices this player can be obtained for now (£17.99) I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if it where to get damaged or lost.
