Vitamin B12 is important during pregnancy as it helps ... more
When I found out I was expecting my first child I wanted to do everything in my power to give him a good start, i'd always had questionable eating habits and didn't always eat the right thing. I knew that despite all the effort I would put in I would still be unable to get all the goodness, both my baby and I would need, from food, I just was not the hungry sort but now there was more than just myself to think about. I'd been looking through several books and magazines on ways to ensure you got the right nutrients when I spotted the advert for Sanatogen Pronatal, it claimed to have everything I would need and so I hunted it down next time I was near a pharmacy.
Sanatogen- Sanatogen is a company who have designed vitamin and mineral supplements in a wide range for different ages and lifestyles. The tablets help supplement a healthy diet in order to ensure you are getting the correct vitamin balance for your stage of life.Sanatogen Pro Natal- Pro Natal is designed specifically for women who are planning a pregnacy, having a baby or recently given birth. They contain an essential combination of vitamins designed to provide the mother and child with all the nutrients they will need during the pregnancy.
Pro natal comes in a white container with a pink lid, the box is the same shade of pink and features a healthy looking pregnant woman. The pink makes it easy to spot among the products on display (and makes it easier for the man in the relationship to buy the right product if sent out by his partner!!) All the ingredients are listed on the side of the bottle as well as the recommended daily allowance of each ingredient.
You have to take one tablet a day, the tablets are quite large and take a bit of getting used to, you definately need a drink with these. It is recommended that you take the tablets after a full meal so the vitamins are more easily absorbed into your system. The Vitamins- Sanatogen Pronatal tablets include the following vitamins- Zinc, Calcium, Iron, Folic acid, Copper, Magnesium, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, B vitamins (B12, B1,B2, B6)
Naturally the right balance of vitamins is important in everyday life not just pregnancy, here are a few of the vitamins and why they are particularly important-
Vitamin B12 is important during pregnancy as it helps to make new cells and build a healthy nervous system.
Calcium and vitamin D are important during pregnancy as they help your baby’s bones and teeth develop. While you may think you are getting enough via your diet it is important to be sure you are taking in enough for both mum and baby, otherwise baby will sap all of mums calcium putting her at risk of weakened bones.
Folic acid, especially in the first 12 weeks, is particularly important. Folic acid helps proper development of the babies brain and spinal cord. Folic acid helps to maKE DNA which carries the genetic information which will ensure the correct formation of every cell in the human body.Price, size and availability- Sanatogen Pro Natal comes in 2 sizes- 30 tables and 90 tablets. They are available from most pharmacies, supermarkets and online. The 30 tablet packs costs £4.99 while the 90 tablet packs is £11.99. Many pharmacies do offers on their tablets include Boots who often offer these on 3 for 2. Obviously prices may vary from place to place.Other Products- Sanatogen Pro Natal + Omega 3 Plus a variety of other vitamin and mineral tablets aimed at every age group(there's a huge range so i've only listed pregnacy specific products)My experience- I took Pro Natal during my first pregnancy for 8 out of the 9 months that I was expecting, I hadn't known I was pregnant otherwise i'd have probably started sooner. I suffered with terrible morning sickness and vomited at least 3 times a day for several months, obviously this meant I was unable to eat as much as I should, I felt the tablets provided me and my baby with nutrients that would so clearly be missing because of the amount I was being sick, I always took them before going to bed as that was the only time I wasn't ill and they would have an opportunity to work into my system.
When we decided to try for baby number 2 I immediately went out and bought a bundle of the tablets Boots were still doing them on 3 for 2. They recommend mothers who are trying to concieve take the tablets to get a head start and I was more than willing to, after the terrible sickness I'd suffered first time I knew if I was to have the same again at least i'd be getting some goodness from the vitamins, and I secretly hoped after loosing one early baby that they would help this baby to "stick"
I cant prove if the tablets helped the babies development, they both turned out well, are healthy(most of the time) happy and well balanced but that could have been the same without taking the Pro Natal. I came out of the experience alright although I did have to take additional iron tablets both times round as the babies were stealing all the iron from me, this however is not a common thing and most women will find the iron content in their diet and the tablets enough. Despite my iron problems I was more than happy taking the tablets if only for the fact I was getting folic acid which is essential for babies growth (but usually only found in horrible food I didnt like)
Ok they may seem pricey, £35.97 for a full 9 months may seem like alot but I was more than happy to pay that for the peace of mind I got from taking the tablets. I would happily pay that much again and in fact plan to should we ever decide to try for baby number 3.
I understand that many women will not want to take vitamin tablets and would prefer more natural ways of getting their recommended daily allowance. All the vitamins needed during pregnancy are available through a varied healthy diet, for more information on this I would recommend visiting WWW.Babyworld.co.uk. Many specialist diets, for example vegan, will find it difficult getting all the vital nutrients and so Sanatogen Pronatal is the perfect way of ensuring you are in the best of health without compromising your beliefs and lifestyle.
Advantages: Well Known Brand Disadvantages: Large tablets
...for example at Boots (www.wellbeing.com) Sanatogen Pronatal costs £6.29 for 60 tablets, Pregnacare tablets are £4.95 for 30 tablets.
Each tablet contains the following % RDA (recommended daily allowance) of the following
Vitamin D 250%
Vitmain E 100%
Vitamin C 167%
Vitmain B1 114%
Vitmain B2 113%
Niacin 106%
Vitmain B6 130%
Folic Acid 175% (700 micrograms per tablet)
Vitamin B12 250%
Biotin 133%
Pantothenic Acid 145%
Calcium 17%
Phosphorous ... ...My reasosn for choosing Sanatogen prot-natal was their slightly higher content of B vitamins as these have been cited as being useful to combat morning sickness and once I started taking these rather than just a folic acid supplement my sickenss inmproved greatly. Although I do accept placebo effect may have also been at play there.
There are no contra-indications mentioned with these vitamins and although the packaging does not make any statements ...

Advantages: Cheaper than some natal tablets Disadvantages: Can make you really blocked up
...decided that the slightly cheaper Sanatogen Pro Natal were better as they were cheaper, she did not read the label.
After a few days of taking them she became “blocked up” and was quite uncomfortable. Anyway I read the label and they contained over 400%, yes 400%, of the recommended daily intake of iron! Needless to say it is a pretty good guess that this was what was causing her problems especially as she knows from her previous pregnancy, that ... ...to normal. She has now bought some Superdrug Natal and everything is doing fine. She has however wasted about £5.00 on something that did her no good at all. If you are sensitive to iron please be very wary of the Sanatogen Pro Natal tablets. ...

Advantages: muliti vatamins and minerals Disadvantages: not available on prescription free for pregnant women
If your trying to concive or pregnant or nursing we all know you need extra vitamins ,well this is one of the best I have found on the market ,
It contains low levels of vitamin A which is not recomended during pregnancy plus it contains the right amount of folic acid that you need during these times and extra calcium too all with the added plus of a multi vitamin complex and a multi mineral complex too so you know your getting everything you need ...

something about this. I have tried taking multivitamins before but mainly I forget to take them everyday and then I just totally forget to take them at all and when I do remember it?s been so long that the use by date has been and gone!
But this time I didn?t let this happen. Why? I don?t know really; think it?s because I spent quite a lot of money on this so thought I?d make the most of my money.
I was in my local boots store (yes I know I am there a lot!) and was browsing through a shelf full of all these different vitamins and mineral tablets. There was a huge line of sanatogen products and most of these were on offer so I had a look at these.
There are many in the range and some include
Sanatogen Gold A to Z
Sanatogen children?s vitamin syrup
Sanatogen 50+
SanatogenpronatalSanatogen powder
Basically sanatogen aim to provide ...
Full of healthy stuff that teenagers don't usually have, boosts skin complexion, makes hair shinier, more energy...lots of energy, hardly any menstrual cramps, plus the blood flow is much more even.
Body cries out for it and feels rather neglected if you stop taking them, especially when you experience a period and it's a lot more painful than before. (*)
