The Sandisk Micro-SDHC Secure Digital 8192 MB (8 GB) memory card is known as an SD micro card, basically because SD memory cards are the smallest you can currently purchase. It measures in at 15mm x 11mm and comes with an adapter when you purchase the card.
The Micro SD card format is used mainly for mobile phones, because of the sheer size and the cards ability to hold huge amounts of data. Although, mainly built for mobile phone use, SD micro cards like the Sandisk Micro SD 8 GB can be used in devices such as hand-held GPS devices, portable audio players, video game consoles and numerous
other devices.
With the 8 GB of storage space, you can hold thousands of songs (approximately 2000), thousands of photos as well as hundreds of videos and other files. When you purchase the 8GB SD micro memory card you get an adapter with it, which will allow you to insert your memory card into a PC or any other compatible external device in order to transfer files from the PC onto the card or from the card onto the PC.
Nowadays there are many more devices like DVD recorders and TV's which come with memory card slots and will most definitely allow you to insert your SD micro memory card into the provided slots in order to view photos, listen to music or even watch videos stored on your Sandisk Micro SD 8GB memory card. Apart from being able to hold photos, music and video files micro SD cards like the Sandisk Micro SD 8GB can also hold other files e.g. Microsoft Word, excel or even software setup files.
Virtually all mobile phone manufacturers (Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola etc.) have at least one phone which is compatible with the micro SD format of memory cards. With the SD micro memory card size being fairly small and having the ability to hold a huge amount of data it is easy to incorporate the card format with even the smallest of devices, which makes the micro SD format of cards one of the most favourite for mobile phone manufacturers.
Like all new and recent memory cards the Sandisk 8GB micro SD card has a shock rating of 2000 G's, which is equivalent to a 10-foot drop. So if you drop your memory card from waist height, no damage will be done to your memory card even though it may look small and weak. The G rating of the memory card makes the card virtually impossible to damage unless you smash it with a hammer with a velocity of over 10 feet per second. The memory card is expected by Sandisk to last over a hundred years due to its G-rating, giving you a very reliable and durable product with a long life-span.
The transfer speed of the memory card is fairly quick, it is equivalent to the transfer speed of a USB 2.0 connection. If you have used an efficient USB 2.0 connection you will know that it is fairly quick in terms of transferring reasonable sized files (preferably files under 1 GB in size). The Sandisk micro SD 8GB card will give you a transfer speed equivalent to a USB 2.0 connection, making the transfer of files fairly quick and efficient.
The transfer speed rating of the Sandisk Micro SD 8GB card is 4. All Micro SD cards have a rating, which determines the transfer speed of the card. The transfer speed ratings start at 2 and end at 6. The Sandisk Micro SB 8 GB has a transfer rating of 4, giving the card a fairly reasonable transfer speed of 4 MBps (Mega Bytes per second). So a 4 MB file like a music file will only take 1 second to transfer from the card to a PC, laptop or any other compatible device.
The memory card is compatible with Windows XP, Vista as well as Apple's Mac OS X. However, you will require a memory card reader in order to gain access to files in the memory card via your PC or laptop. If your PC or laptop does not have a memory card reader you will not be able to transfer files, however you will be able to purchase an external memory card reader, which will give you the efficiency of an integrated memory card reader with the added bonus of portability.
You will not be required to install any additional software in order to use the Sandisk 8 GB card with your PC or any other external device. All you will need is a memory card adapter, which is provided with the card and your ready to go. Once you insert your memory card adapter WITH the memory card, your PC may auto_open the memory card file location or you will have to gain access manually by entering 'My Computer'.
Overall the Sandisk 8 GB micro SD card is a great, giving you a large memory capacity in a very small package. It is perfect for mobile phones as well as other electronic devices, giving you the ability to hold masses of data in a very small and compact device. The slight downside to the card would be the size as it would be very easy for it to get lost, although it is best to keep the memory card in the device you are using it for or in the memory card adapter itself.
I recommend the Sandisk 8GB micro SD card to potential buyers simply because of the sheer amount of memory you get in such a small package, its compatibility with a huge range of mobile phones as well as other devices and finally because of its reliability/ durability.
You can purchase the Sandisk 8GB micro SD card from www.memorybits.co.uk as well as many more micro SD cards, with lower memory capacities which are cheaper and just as reliable.
Thanks for reading
