For the ninth time in five years I have bought another mobile phone, the mobile is a bit different from the rest because it has a micro SD slot. However, because the mobile does not have sufficient intergrated memory, I just had to buy a memory card and it happened to be the microSd 2GB. I really wanted to use the memory card instantly as I wanted to transfer music files from my friends mobile via Bluetooth. I couldn't really open the package by hand, it was tough as the package is made of thick plastic, and I am a little bit weak even my tooth couldn't reap the package apart, therefore had to look for a scissors.
I bought the memory card from 3store, I hardly buy from 3stores, but it was the nearest store to me. However, I thought the price wasn't as bad as I thought as I only paid £19.99 and price included the MicroSd adapter. MicroSd adapter turn the micro Sd card into a normal SD card (via the TransFlash slot) which is compatible with many digital cameras, computers, laptops etc. I have used the Adapter a couple of time on my Dell laptop which has a memory card reader. The adapter is recognised immediately and transfers between the laptop and the adapter is rather fast when transferring music files.
However, sometimes I use my mobile as the adapetr, by basically connecting my mobile onto the USB port whilst the micro sd card is the mobile, the laptop or computer will not detect your mobile but the micro sd card, and you can easily transfer files or view files on the Micro sd card. Once you are done you just eject the micro SD from the adapter by pulling it out. How the microSD card and the adapter work is pretty straight forwards and if you are a first time user it couldn't be any easier for you as the micro sd card has arrows showing you which side of the microSd card goes in first into your device.
Compatibility
I bought the MicroSd card for my new Vodafone mobile. However, the microSD card is also compatible with other electrical devices and lots of mobile phones including Nokia N95, N96, N75, Motorola, Samsung, Blackberry etc. Sadly I do not think the MicroSd card is compatible with any Sony Ericsson mobiles. Moreover, because the microSD has an adapter, it is also compatible with some digital cameras. I have a Polaroid digital camera, and have used the Micro sd with the adapter in the camera, it was all easy to insert, the micro Sd card did not fall out as the adapter has a lock button which you slide, so that the micro Sd card doesn't fall out.
Is the memory sufficient?
The 2GB Micro Sd card approx 4000 2MP pictures which I think is quiet a lot for pictures, but I find the amount of pictures stored to be helpful as I don't find myself having to delete my pictures more often. I However, mainly bought the micro sd card to enable me to store more music files on my mobile. The MicroSd card stores approx 500songs which I think is alright but as a huge music fan I would rather a bigger memory e.g. 4gb or possibly 8GB which stores more music. You can also use the memory card to store other documents other than music and pictures. I have used the memory card to store my word format documents, videos and powerpoints. It can store hundreds of files depending how big the memory is e.g. if you store a full movie onto the memory card it would possibly store a maximum of three movies. However, depending on your device, you can also delete any unwanted documents via your device. Documents such as PDF files, word documents etc may only be deleted via a P.C because some mobile phone or digital cameras don't have the software that enables the documents to be viewed for you to delete, unless if you format the memory card via the mobile phone or digital camera. Moreover, just because you can't view a document does not mean you have extra memory or the files have been deleted, the documents are still encrypted in the memory card and will not corrupt if opened later.
Recommendation
Yes, I would recommend the 2GB MicroSd card, it is very reliable and since I have started using the memory card I have not come across any technical difficulties. However, if you happen to have any technical difficulties the Memory card does come with a five year manufacture warranty, which gives me a peace of mind. Although the warranty does not cover theft or if you lose the MIcroSD card, therefore you ought to be careful, as the memory card is very small. Moreover, The memory card is very easy to use and the hard cover enclosed manual tells you how to use the MicroSd card. You can easily recognise the memory card as it has the 'MicroSD' print on it. However, if you are one of those people whom are careless, you might want to buy a different mobile that takes bigger memory cards such as SanDisk Pro Duo rather than the microSd card memory as they are very small, therefore, would be very hard to find them if dropped or misplaced.
Note
---The MicroSd memory card can be bought from many shops including superstores such as PC World, Tescoes, Asda, Currys, Comet, WoolWorth, Amazon mobile phone shops and possibly corner shops too. However, because there are many shops selling the 2GB MicroSd card, the prices do vary, so it's always good to do a bit of research before you buy if you are looking for a bargain.
---The MicroSd card can be found in different memory sizes e.g. 512MB, 1GB, 4GB, 8GB etc. If you want faster transfers, you could always buy the micro SDHC cards
---The memory card come with a five year manufacture warranty, however to obtain the warranty you have to register the memory card via email or their website. I have not yet registered my memory card, so do not know how long transaction takes, but I'm sure it wouldn't take long.
---This MicroSd card is at times mistaken for the SanDisk M2 card, these memory card look alike but they are not compatible with the same devices, e.g. the M2 card is compatible with some Sony Ericsson, whereas the Microsd is not compatible with Sony Ericsson mobiles.
---Micro Sd cards come in black, so don't waste time looking for your favourite colour MicroSd card.
