I never even realised these things existed until my Gran pointed it out in Mothercare when we were yet again shopping for more baby items. We were still in the preparation stage, spending our way through my carefully thought out list. This was not on the list and when my gran offered to buy it for us I told her not to be silly, it was just one of those rip of items that you didn't really need. However, my partner ( who has an uncanny phobia to nappies - clean or dirty!!!) was quite keen on the idea of getting one so I eventually relented and we bought it. It was half price so I didn't begrudge it THAT much.
As it turns out it is one of the best buys we made. You can have it at your changing area so as soon as you have used a wipe you can shovel it in and the smelly nappy goes straight in aswell, push it down (it then is 'gripped' by some plastic fingers), twirl the top and nappy is neatly contained in a bag, in the bin. It certainly saves you from having nappies and wipes in a pile until you can get them to your bin and also saves you the horror of a big stinking nappy in your face when you add something to your main bin. We all know that that is not pleasant!
It claims to also contain the smell and it does for the first few months then after that, I find it seems to retain a funny odour about it. It is not too strong but I decided to add a cheapie air freshner to the bottom of it anyway. I just have to be careful when emptying it!
The most annoying thing is actually having to empty it. You have changed nappy, try to push down and realise it is full - no bother, I will finish changing baby and then sort it out. But as any mum will know, you end up getting distracted by the hundreds of other things you need to do and by the time it comes round to the next nappy change you are half way through the deed when you realise you still haven't changed the damn thing! The bin I have holds 28 ish nappies so changing is a regular occurance. The container that holds the bag does run out too so remember to have a spare cartridge to ensure that you don't get caught out.
I think it is one of the items we have definitely got the most use out of and I would recommend it to others as it is convenient and very easy to use. It does come with instructions but they really aren't needed. However, I would not advise you to pay the full price of £29.99 - I have seen it half price at a lot of places and it really isn't worth more than £15.00 so do shop around.
I should also mention that you do have to buy the cartridges and these are around £3.50 individually. However, you can buy a 3 pack for £9.99. Although these seem pricey, they do tend to last for quite a while.

These are the most hygenic way for disposing of nappies. A good review. Maureen

The catridges are expensive £10 for 3, but admittedly they do last for a while. We have resorted to simply using cheap nappy sacks instead. They do pong after a while too!
