Designed to replicate the look of a wooden barrel, these Waterbutts are perfect for collecting and storing rainwater. These will be a feature in any garden.
Advantages: good for plants; good for the environment Disadvantages: expensive outlay; some look rather plain
in my water usage. Aside from obvious ones like only using the washing machine for full loads, and taking showers instead of baths, here's a few others to ponder:
If it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow.
Share a bath!
One I can heartily recommend, the other might leave your bathroom smelling rank!
Sensing a challenge to save money, I was only too happy to buy a SankeyWaterButt. Richard Sankey and Son Limited, to give them their full name, have been around for over 150 years making gardening products from flower pots to compost bins. Their wares can probably be found in most Garden centres, but when we were looking for a waterbutt in 2006, we could only find a few suppliers online.
Sankey had one of the easiest websites to navigate, and also a fairly good range at the time if I remember rightly. We ...
Advantages: Very good idea, very green. Disadvantages: Not a lot.
You are reading about a submersible pump by Hozelock, designed to fit into your waterbutt, and provide a supply of water suitable for watering your garden. Simple idea, and a good one too. It will feed water with enough pressure to provide a decent spray. A very good idea in these days of hose pipe bans.

Good thinking, good point. I have baled out strip footings with a bucket before now, and must say any sort of pump is an improvement. A proper submersible one is ideal.
I must admit I was thinking of adapting my drill operated gizmo to fit my waterbutt, but having used one of these, I know which ...
Advantages: Two worlds melded together very nicely Disadvantages: Not terribly well drawn characters
Mike Carey is not a name I'd come across before, but on hearing he'd written the book that the film ''Constantine'' was based on, I was certainly interested in his work. ''Thicker Than Water'' is the fourth in his series involving Felix Castor and whilst that gave me slight pause about coming in to an already well established series, my desire to check out Carey's work outweighed any concerns I had.
Felix Castor is an exorcist, attempting to fight the demons, werewolves and zombies that inhabit our world. Not all of them, as his closest friend has a demon living inside him whilst his friends Nicky and Juliet are a zombie and succubus. Mostly, he lets such things be, but if they cause trouble he takes it upon himself to remove them from the world and let us mere humans live in peace.
This time around, Castor is implicated in a murder ...
