Well the day came when my old trusty vacuum decided it had sucked its last breath, so obviously I would need a new model.

It took some time to decide, should I go upright? With or without a bag, hmm the choices seemed endless but in the end I decided to go for a bag less cleaner as not only did I used to spend a lot on bags but also find that once they have so much in them then the vacuum loses suction.

It was then after flicking through the brochure I decided to buy the Sanyo cylinder 1500 cleaner.

I eagerly waited its arrival and was extremely surprised when it did come, the box was small and it hardly weighed anything at all, hmmm, now wondering if I had actually mad a wise choice I unpacked my new vacuum.

APPEARANCE
¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤¤•

The vacuum is of average size for a cylinder cleaner, blue with a clear front and a long hose which holds 2 tools, one for vacuuming edges and gaps and the other a brush for delicate items.

An on/off switch is located on the top of the machine as well as a dust indicator so you can see at a glance how full it is.

Also you find a cord rewind button for keeping the cord and plug neat and tidy when not in use.

The nozzle of course has 2 positions one for carpets and the other for hard floors, which is of course pretty standard nowadays!

Now that sounds fine doesn’t it but believe me it certainly isn’t easy to get the actual hose etc together, yes there are instructions but they were rather basic and not very explanative but I did manage it in the end!

The hose itself I wasn’t very impressed with, plastic as expected but very cheap and not at all sturdy and even the floor nozzle seems very cheap and flimsy too and I can see it easily breaking!

CLEANING TIME
¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤¤•

Well lets give it the cleaning test, switch on and off we go, hmmm now although we have a very long hose it is practically impossible to hold it upright and clean, you find it needs to be tilted at an angle to get it flat on the floor and actually vacuum, not comfortable at all believe me!

Now once you work out the angle it will actually clean pretty well, the clear front enables you to view the disgusting contents of your floors which is a bonus as you can see just how much it will pick up!

It actually fits on stairs very neatly, so again this is good and with the actual machine being so light you can lift it about with ease.

Should the 1500 suction be too much then you merely adjust the vacuum control ring situated on the hose to reduce it, but again this seems rather hit and miss!

Now another feature I didn’t tell you about, exciting as it may be, hehe is the blower, ,you can remove the hose from the front of the vacuum and attach it to the back and hey presto your vacuum will blow and blow it does!

Now I’m not quite sure really why you would want a vacuum to blow dust everywhere but I guess its there for some reason. Answers on a postcard please….

TIME TO EMPTY
¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤¤•

Right once your vacuum indicator says full then its time to empty the machine, yes you guessed it,this is a nightmare!

You firstly need to remove the clear frontage and then allsorts of bits drop out, aghh, a large filter being one and this has a little plastic chip fork thing that fits on it, so you get the idea, you open the filter and clean all the dust out of the grooves with your little fork, easy ?

Well no actually the fork seems pretty useless at cleaning the filter so you find yourself looking for something else to do the job!

Once you have removed all the debris you then need to wash the filter and leave to dry before attempting to put it all back together..phew…

VERDICT
¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤¤•

As you may have gathered I am not exactly over the moon with my new cleaning pal, the quality of the machine is extremely poor and very badly designed.

Yes it will clean but with the actual hose and nozzle being so thin and poor, you hardly dare press it onto the floor in case it snaps.

The actual body looks fine, in fact quite stylish and modern but it certainly lacks that something.

Emptying and cleaning is certainly a pain and not something you can do in a few minutes, the reason I chose this was I liked the idea of being able to just empty it out and have no bag but in fact having a bag would probably be a lot easier than not after all!

I would expect more really for a trusted name as Sanyo and although it wasn’t expensive it certainly wasn’t the cheapest around at £69,so of you see this little blue machine, think twice before taking him home!…

I'm using a goblin hoover at the moment and although it's really old, it's quite good.
