Advantages: Good quality, easy to use and very small Disadvantages: Probably a bit dated now
I work for a Psychology department within a University and as you may or may not know, Psychologists do a huge number of interviews. Up until about 2 years ago they were happy to use the old fashioned method of tape recorder and microphone. Someone then decided that they had had enough of this and wanted a better piece of equipment for recording interviews so I set about seeing what was about.
What we needed:
**************
Our needs were simple, all we really required was something that made a decent quality recording, was small enough to carry around easily, had a lot of storage and was user friendly.
After searching the internet for days, reading reviews and looking at the specs and prices of loads of different recorders I came across the Olympus digitalvoicerecorder range.

Advantages: 14day Electronic Programme Guide-Simultaneously Watch a recording and record 2 other programmes Disadvantages: The temporarily restricted power of terrestrial digital transmissions
This gadget is a Twin Tuner 'Digital Video Recorder' (DVR), or 'Personal Video Recorder' (PVR) which records to its own 80GB Hard Disc Drive. It can receive and recordDigital Terrestrial (received through a rooftop aerial) Free-to-air TV
At around £125 (£90 'refurbished') it is not much more expensive than a video recorder but can do a lot more. In many areas the extra cost of an aerial upgrade needs to be taken into account but no monthly fee or other subscription is needed, and there is no facility for decoding pay-per-view digital programmes (TUTV)
We watch a lot of TV but have to hunt for anything interesting and the FVRT200 makes this as easy as possible. Because it displays lists of all programmes for 2 weeks ahead, with synopses, on the TV screen where they can be selected, the amount of button pressing is minimised ...
Advantages: Magnificent Sound Quality, Good Ergonomics (i.e generally comfortable to hold and use), Very light (about the weight of half a bag of pub nuts), 22 hours anc 10 minutes of recordings, Highly sensitive microphone, has a Variable Control Voice Actuator Disadvantages: Only displays 10 characters on the screen - so reading artist name and song is difficult, volume control button is small and fiddley, more of a voice recorder than an MP3 player (as I later found out, with only 60 minutes of music time)
recordings to the PC as well, which is great when you want to free up your memory (pretty standard really)
I will however point out that the transfer of MP3s is relatively slow. It had taken me about 40 minutes to load up 10 songs (all approximately 4MB each) which when you are on the run, and want to just load your songs and go, is a bit of a tie down.
Additionally, it is not compatible with iMac computers. So if you don't have access to an IBM computer with a USB port, forget this MP3 player straight away.
