Advantages: HDTV output, supports AMDs Cool 'n' Quiet Disadvantages: Only one lan
The ASUS M2NPV-VM Motherboard for AMD single-core Athlon 64/ Sempron and Dual-core Athlon 64 X2/ Athlon FX processors using socket AM2 is very user friendly, I went with AMDs 64 x2 3800+ processor in the beginning then moved up to 4200+ 2Gb Ram without any hassle, very easy to setup and fits easily in a standard ATX case. A possible downside to the board is that it has a limited number of slots due to being a microATX sized board. That's not a big deal for me as the only two cards I'll be buying in the future is Graphics and a extra Lan card.

>In the upper right hand corner of the motherboard are the ATX 24 pin power connector, Floppy disk connector, Game/Midi port connector and four DDR2 slots. These DDR2 slots support a maximum memory capacity of 8GB and the frequencies supported is DDR2-800MHz/667 ...
Advantages: Good stable board Disadvantages: Not many PCI slots
Motherboards are critical to any computer. The selection is wide and the features each contains need to be closely looked at.
I was building a new PC and I came across this motherboard. It is a microATX board so is alot smaller than any ATX board so therefore has the disadvantage of not having much opportunity for expansion.
There are only three PCI slots which is fine if you do not require many but considering that a modem, soundcard and now wireless cards need PCI slots then this does not leave many options if you wish to install these.
The board itself has many features and comes with onboard graphics and sound. The advantage of this is that money is saved on needing to buy a graphics card and sound card. The disadvantage of this is that if you do use the onboard graphics it uses your system memory and therefore can slow ...
Erm… Well no actually!
Motherboards can be drastically different in quality and speed. You just need to know how to look at them and what are the good and bad points of them all.
Okay so here goes for the bad points about the Abit SoA AMD 761 ATX R motherboard
Bad points:
~~~~~~~
1. Windows will fight you over which device drivers are best and you’ll generally end up not even using the disk of drivers they give you. The navigation on the disk is painful at best and could be so much simpler.
2. There is no on-board sound (which I consider a plus personally, but others may not) (On board sound is normally crap!)
3. It may not come with the CMOS cleared (Mine didn’t and wouldn’t do a thing till I clear it! V. Annoying) (CMOS is your internal clock, and bios setup options)
4. It will only cope ...
There are few true revolutions in the PC industry. At the heart of the Sapphire PURE Hybrid CrossFire 780V (PI-AM2RS780V) lies AMD's revolutionary 780V+SB700 chipset. With the AMD 780V IGP chipset, all the barriers have been broken. This is the first AMD chipset to integrate a powerful DirectX 10 graphics core powered by ATI Radeon HD3100 graphics. It's the first AMD chipset that enables everyday computer users to play the latest games with no additional discrete graphics card, the first mainstream motherboard that delivers a total high definition cinematic experience and it does all of this consuming a lot less power then you'd think.
