Not Just for the Children
Review of Epaminondas and his Auntie - Sara Cone Bryant by
Discerna
Advantages: Enjoyable approachable tale, enduring timeless messages
Disadvantages: Some details have dated
...“Epaminondas and his Auntie” first appeared in print in 1905 as part of a book entitled “How to tell stories to children and some stories to tell” by Sara Cone Bryant. I think it is likely that my grandmother had a copy of that book as I can remember a number of the tales within it that she used to tell to me when I was a little girl. Of these “Epaminondas and his Auntie” was a great favourite. As I grew up the details of the story faded but the outline lived on in my mind and I found myself wanting to reference it. Wonderful
Review of Horse Sense - Bonnie Bryant by
happycatz
Advantages: Great for all horsy teenagers, not snobby
Disadvantages: You need to like horses really
...Saddle Club books
I was somewhat addicted to these when I was younger. Written by Bonnie Bryant a huge number of books have been written in the series. They are about three girls; Stevie, Carol and Lisa. They all love horses and live in the same town. It's a great series for young teenagers, who love horses, because it has no snobbery, like many horsy books. The girls go through all the usual things, first boyfriends, holidays, school dances etc, but they spend most of their time at Pine Hollow riding stables. These are great books for any 10-14 year old, mind you I still like them now!...
