Smile with Sarah

Advantages: Easy listening, humorous banter
Disadvantages: Not for the young

...works van. He'd listened to Sarah Kennedy's breakfast show, known as the Dawn Patrol, a few times, and said that he'd quite liked it, being similar to the kind of thing we had been used to. I must confess, I'd never had any time for Game for a Laugh, the TV programme in which Sarah had been one of four presenters some years back, and which was the only time I'd ever heard of her, but we decided to give the show a hearing. It turned out to be a good ...
...don't know how much influence Sarah has over the choice of music, but I suspect that she has a certain amount of say in the matter. Obviously, the show is aimed at the 30 upwards bracket, and the music is naturally chosen to suit people in all parts of that group, with Radio 1 there to cater for the younger section of the population.

The remainder of the show is dedicated to Sarah's observations on current affairs, and on life in general, ... more

CALLING ALL DAWN PATROLLERS! . .

Advantages: Easy to listen to.
Disadvantages: None.

. . I am writing this review, in defence of Sarah Kennedy, as some people do not realise how good she is. Sarah Mary Kennedy started working for radio 2 over thirty years ago now, and as many of you will remember, she started "giggling for a living" in the show Game for a Laugh, which ran for a mere three years. She has also won awards for broadcasting, including the Sony Gold Radio Award for her own breakfast show. Radio 2 itself, was voted as the UK's most popular station only last year. In June 2005, Sarah was awarded the MBE . Her morning show for us Dawn Patrollers, runs from 0600 to 0730 every weekday, on 88.9 fm. A lot of criticism has been aimed at her, because of her continual use of childrens anecdotes, small furry pet stories, and the silly things we all get up to. This is just her own way of presenting an easy ...

Review of The Sarah Kennedy's Dawn Patrol

Waking up the gentle way

Advantages: relaxed, gentle humour
Disadvantages: too twee

I am very picky about who I wake up with. Only two people will do: Duskman of course and Sarah Kennedy on Radio 2?s Dawn Patrol programme broadcast between 6:00 and 7:30 in the morning. I cannot stand television at this time as it is too bright and I think it would be a distraction when I am trying to get out of the door on time. Nor can I stand hyperactive young breakfast show presenters who shout a lot, play noisy music and want to do wacky things such as shove jelly down their trousers. The Dawn Patrol is none of these being a rather civilized affair including a mixture of music, news and Sarah Kennedy?s gentle humour and slightly eccentric ramblings and anecdotes. The music is not exactly cutting edge. It is a nice mixture of old favourites such as the Eagles, the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel alongside more melodic, middle ...

Review of The Sarah Kennedy's Dawn Patrol

Stumbled on by accident

Advantages: good music, informative, funny
Disadvantages: the odd programme is dire

Well, I have an admission to make...I haven't told many peoplefor fear of ageing in their eyes overnight. A while back, one Saturday I was channel hopping on my car radio and came across Jonathan Ross's show on Radio 2 (every Saturday 10-1pm) The show is 3 hours and is packed with good hunour, great music (for us thirtysomethings) and lively chat. He has a couple of guests each week, either comedians, presenters anyone really. Since then I have listened to Radio 2 more and more. I have discovered Sarah Kennedy (weekdays 6-7.30am) and her breakfast show - which eases you out of bed with gentle humour and once again decent music. Nothing too taxing as yuou first awake. However I do admit to turning over when Terry Wogan comes on!! My work sometimes takes me out one the road and of an afternoon they have some excellent 'chat ...
