...Cottage Pie is a savoury mixture of minced beef and vegetables topped with creamy mashed potatoes slightly browned and coated with grated cheese. I may just be stupid but if I received this dish in a restaurant, or wherever, I would assume it was Shepherds Pie. Uncultured as I am, I know! Where am I going wrong? Well, the famous Shepherds Pie seems to have stolen the name for a minced beef pie, when traditionally it was made with minced lamb but ... ...yet? I hope not!
Ok, if we can call Cottage Pie Shepherds Pie, surely we can have a veggie Cottage Pie! We have! Just before all you hawks start circling me, I have scouted the internet for these recipes. Advantages: HEALTHY. TASTY AND DELICIOUS. Disadvantages: FRIENDS WANTING YOU TO COOK FOR THEM.
Firstly I just want to point out that I have a great passion for cooking, somewhat a top hobby at the moment, and I also enjoy eating very much too (not to much though lol). Last week I was cooking for my mother and decided to cook a tasty good old fasioned,down to earth home made Cottage pie. Keeping up with the times I'm very much into healthy eating, so my Cottage pie is full of fresh ingredients including Organic Beef and Olive oil.
My recipe ... ...followed it, that I promise!. (Remember if you're a vegetarian just add meat substitute)
INGREDIENTS:
400-500g of lean Organic mince Beef
2 - 3 tablespoons of Olive oil
4 - large Potatoes
1 - whole Garlic bulb (yes the whole bulb)
1 - large Onion
2 - medium sized Carrots
1 - large Parsnip
2 - tablespoons of Bisto
2 - teaspoons of mixed Herbs (Bay leafs)
1 - cup of garden/frozen Peas pinch of Salt and ground Pepper

SAVOURY COTTAGE PIE
2 tablespoons of oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
450g/1lb minced raw or cooked beef
salt
pepper
1 tablespoon of curry powder(more if you like it hot)
226g/8oz canned tomatoes
750g/1 and half lb potatoes
2 tablespoons milk
knob of butter
melted butter or gratted cheese to finish
First heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the onions until softened.
Add the beef and fry until it is browned, (if using ... ...off but give it a try your be surprised try a little at first and see how you like it.
Well i hope some of you like the sound of my savoury cottage pie and head to the kitchen and start cooking
