Scalextric Inner City Speed

Advantages: up to 6 people racing, lane change at will, connects to PC
Disadvantages: difficult to get accessories

...I bought this at Christmas 2004 'for my 31/2 year old son'; honestly I did :). 'Look', I said to my wife, 'you want the best for your son don't you?' 'Besides', I said, 'it will help him later on in life by teaching him about cars….' So that's how I justified the expense. ;) And so on Boxing Day we opened up my new (sorry my sons) new toy :) First impressions were 'blimey this looks a bit complicated' but when you start putting it together you realise it's not that disimilar to the other scalextric sets and the instructions are dead easy to follow. The main difference is internal and allows you to change lanes at will which I'll come to in a moment. Advantages: high speed races
Disadvantages: bikes not stable enough and keep falling off

...motorbikes two men to ride the motorbikes. Assembly is fairly easy, we had to take it apart a couple of times, just because there is so much track it wouldnt fit into our spare room so we had to change the layout a few times, and we still didn't use it all we had to shorten it. Adding the barriers, edging and banking is fairly easy as well and the kit comes with full instructions. Playability The novelty of having bikes instead of cars is great, especially for a bike enthusiast like my husband, but the actual playing is disapointing. The bike are unstable, even with the weight bars added to them, and even with the banking on the track as soon as you get up any sort of speed they come off. Which is the total point of scalextric, speed and beating your mates (or husband) around the track. The bikes were damaged by christmas... Read review

Advantages: Great starter-set
Disadvantages: One is not enough…

My First Scalextric Set Having seen the Ad on TV and Boy really desparate for one I thought this the best to go for in the way of remote control race track as at 4 he's really not old enough for a big expensive set so he got this for Christmas. Cost us £30 from Toys'r'Us though can be found in many other stores and on-line, the price is about the same everywhere but you may find it a bit cheaper. Age on box states not suitable for under 3 years, due to small parts and functional sharp edges - we haven't found any particularly sharp bits yet ? so unsure which bits that refers to. Also tells you that new controllers may become warm and emit vapour and give off slight smell -this is normal and disappears after use. Nice ! Our first Race..
