Advantages:	Everyone enjoys it and it does not take up too much room

I think I managed to kid myself that I was buying a boxed set called ‘My First Scalextric’ for my two young daughters. But, I guess that was really just an excuse.

Here was an opportunity for me to relive a small part of my childhood, so on an impulse I found myself handing over my hard earned cash.

Normally my impulse buys result in disaster, and at first it appeared that this time would be no different. This was billed as ‘racing fun for the younger driver’ and was pitched at the 3+ age group. So, I was quite disappointed when a big ugly father like me could not keep the cars on the track. I just could not believe how fast those cars went. There was no way that a 2 year old and 3 year old would be able to cope with this.

How wrong could I be? Within minutes the three of us were having great fun watching the cars whizzing around the track. We even managed to persuade mum to join in.

I was really surprised by how well even our two year old has nearly managed to master the driving. This is not just a game for older children.

This was definitely a good investment costing under £30.

For the money you get 2 cars and controllers. There are only nine pieces of track to put together in a figure of eight shape. So, even if you don’t set up the track permanently it does not take very long to put it all together.

Once set out the track measures 108cm x 61cm according to the box. What that means is that it does not take up too much space and is, therefore not too intrusive.

The only trouble is that the track is a bit limiting after you have raced around it a few times. This probably means we will be investing in a few accessories before long.

The early signs are that this is a toy that will be giving us years of fun. At last, an impulse buy that worked out to the good.
