Epson Perfection 2580 Photo
Review of Epson Perfection 2580 PHOTO by
Alasdairk
Advantages: Excellent Scan Quality, Rapid Results.
Disadvantages: Very Poor Reference Guide, Noisy, No Power Switch, edges of Scan Bed Missed From Scan
The scanner was bought as a replacement for a five year old "best buy" scanner which although top notch for its time, was beginning to look rather puny in comparison to the new kids on the block. I paid £84 in a sale although the RRP was £94.
It's a fairly handsome looking beast and the silver and grey colour scheme which now seems to be the mode blends well with my existing PC equipment.
Installing the software was very straightforward and with ... ...came on the disc. I quickly found that the guide contained very little information of any use whatever. It is sloppily translated from whatever the language was in which it was first written. It's very perfunctory and in common with much in the way of computer related literature, seems to have been written by someone with plenty of technical knowledge but no appreciation of how to impart this knowledge to the uninitiated consumer.

Brilliant Scanner now at a very good price!
Review of Epson Perfection 2480 Photo by

Advantages: Great quality!
Disadvantages: erm... takes up room on the desk?!? no good for anything much bigger than A4
I have owned the epson 2480 scanner now for quite a while, and its brilliant! It has loads of features and good software, making it very versatile and it is now available for around £60 if you shop around a little - a great adition to your PC.
This really is a great scanner, and for those who have an out-dated scanner that really isn't up to much it might be time to make an upgrade. This scanner provides the user with the capabilities of restoring ... ...your heart's content!
The Epson 2480 also is capable oof scanning doccuments. Therefore, it is great for home use, or office use because if there are any correspondents that you need a copy of, or need to forward on or edit you can simpley scan them in. The scanner automatically recognises what type of document it is and can transfer a physical doccument on paper into an electronic doccument that can be re-printed or emailed.
This can also be useful ...

a good scanner but a few glitches
Review of Epson Perfection 2480 Photo by
darky2005
Advantages: good quality scanning, scans 35mm negatives
Disadvantages: cant work out how to scan negatives! can be complicated to work
...with today’s technology im surprised Epson choose this phrase!
The scanning is a little slower than I would like but as they say the best things come to those that wait and I was not disappointed with the scanning quality.
Although there are a few minor discrepancies, this scanner I bought I am over all impressed with it. ...

Advantages: Stores all your old photos
Disadvantages: None at all
...together with a CD-Rom with Epson Scan driver, software, and electronic manuals. After removing all the packaging you will see a sticker on the scanner and this shouldn’t be removed until the installation process tells you to do so.
Apparently, it is extremely important that you install the software before you connect the scanner to your pc and also to make sure that you close all other programmes before running the installation process.

Master the software and it's very good.
Review of Epson Perfection 2400 Photo by

Advantages: Stupendous resolution, negs&slides, USB2.
Disadvantages: Dubious software, bulky
...But an email to Epson resulted in a reply which explained, step by step, how to frame the slides manually. It's a slow process to do accurately, and you need to do one at a time rather than four, but the results are excellent. I'm now wading my way through hundreds of slides. It's in the manual if you have the patience to read it letter for letter. On reflection, I did get a higher resolution than necessary. Using the Epson's top resolution setting ... ...high-power PC to its knees. If a computer has knees. For most slides jobs I use 1600dpi. Higher resolutions might be used for large prints, but you would have to be very careful that the glass and slide (or negative) are spotlessly clean. Top resolution is 12800dpi (interpolated I suspect from the optical 2400dpi) but in practice anything bigger than a postage stamp would create an absurdly large file in this kind of resolution.
During some operations ...
