Canon CanoScan N650u Scanner
Review of Canon CanoScan N650U by
JoshBrown21
Advantages: Good-Looking, Compact, Good For Little Kids
Disadvantages: Not Very Good Quality
Good, compact scanner but not very good quality. If scanning in photos, pretty good but if scanning in text, the text sometimes comes out multi-coloured. I was actually given this scanner by a friend who was clearing his bedroom, and is suitable for me because all i use it for is messing around . . . . the usual things kids usually do like putting their hand on it and scanning it in, or just little bits of homework.
This scanner is very compact, ... ...A4 paper and is about 2 cm deep. I have mine tucked away in a little drawer, out of the way!
Would recommend for little kids who want to scan in their hand prints, etc ... , but not for business people who are using it for work! ;) ...

Slide to screen heaven
Review of Epson FilmScan 200 by
BorisHotch
Advantages: Store your Slide collection, Ease of Use. SCSI Interface, Price
Disadvantages: Only works on Win 3.x, Win 95/98, NT and Mac. Noise Volume, SCSI Interface
...on to computer, then the Epson Filmscan 200 could be just the job for you.
Being fairly small in size (6"x5"x12"), it is easy to fit on to the average desk surface, though you have to be aware that the slide carrier moves through the body of the unit, so you have to allow extra space at the back of the unit (otherwise you could damage the internals when it tries to push it backwards and forwards).
There are two versions that I am aware of, the ... ...cannot use this scanner, with Epson not making a driver (they now want people to buy flatbed's instead). You can get around this by installing Windows 98 (if you have a legal copy of course) and using the PC as a dual boot system, which means you then select either Windows XP or Windows 98 on bootup. This is the only way I know of to make it work with XP. You don't need to install all the extras of Win 98, and all you would need id some form of graphic ...

Scanner of choice for occasional use.
Review of Canon CanoScan N670U by
bristol_steve
Advantages: Reliable; No additional power (will work mobile with laptop); Cheap
Disadvantages: Slow scan speed.
I’ve owned a couple of dirt-cheap scanners… mainly as an alternative to buying a photocopier to use for 2-3 sheets per month – this is the best scanner by a huge margin. I’ve never been concerned about photographic quality – or even in colour… though I think the Cannon does OK on those points – most of my scans are 200DPI greyscale which I then laser-print for my records.
In my opinion the scanner is great – very simple and easy to use and far more ... ...scan more than 10 sheets a week or if you work with photographic images for publication you should take this review with a pinch of salt… if, like me, you use it to occasionally take copies of brief documents to archive, print or email – you can’t go wrong.
If you want a cheap scanner with a simple interface (but you don’t care about speed) then this is one of the best – in my opinion. In my experience it has been a cost-effective straightforward ...

A great value scanner
Review of Canon CanoScan N1240U by
frozenoxygen
Advantages: This item is slimline and OCR software is perfect
Disadvantages: The scan is upside down (This is probably my fault)
I Have had this scanner not for over a year still works perfectly (even after being dropped a few times) I use this scanner on a regular basis for work and for enhancing some of my old family photographs.
When you put in the item to scanned it is upside down. (This always gets me) the top of the documents or item goes towards the back of the scanner. (This may be because my old scanner worked the opposite way). If this is the case new users won't ... ...CD's, foil or metalic items. Scaning black glossy items it seems to create a musty colour which can easly be corrected by software. The software you get with it is superb the OCR software is great simply put it in the document and it scans it and transfers it to text with automatic spell checking with amazing accuracy.
The scan panel and interface is easly available from all photo and artwork software I have. You have to close the scan panel after ...

Good flatbed with nice software
Review of Canon CanoScan 3000F by
Niaomace
Advantages: Flatbed performance fine for the money, supplied software useful
Disadvantages: Disappointing film performance
...sale second-hand. )
The Canon 3000F is a USB flatbed scanner that also includes a facility for scanning film. I bought it to replace a loathesome Umax scanner that was nothing but trouble. By contrast, this Canon has given me no problems in the four years I've owned it.
It includes a "cold cathode" light, which supposedly gives better colour than the LEDs used in some cheaper models. All I know is that it looks fine to me. When scanning printed ... ...use. Some people have complained about the speed, but I guess it depends what you expect- certainly, this USB 2.0-enabled scanner seems much faster than my old parallel Umax.
The 3000F also comes with some useful software, including a photocopier facility, and a feature that lets you scan multiple pages and save them as a single PDF. (Great for archiving documents). The three buttons on the front of this unit can be programmed to directly start ...
