Good, compact scanner but not very good quality. If scanning in photos, pretty good but if scanning in text, the text sometimes comes out multi-coloured. You can get around this by installing Windows 98 (if you have a legal copy of course) and using the PC as a dual boot system, which means you then select either Windows XP or Windows 98 on bootup. I’ve owned a couple of dirt-cheap scanners… mainly as an alternative to buying a photocopier to use for 2-3 sheets per month – this is the best scanner by a huge margin. I’ve never been concerned about photographic quality – or even in colour… though I think the Cannon does OK on those points – most of my scans are 200DPI greyscale which I then laser-print for my records. I Have had this scanner not for over a year still works perfectly (even after being dropped a few times) I use this scanner on a regular basis for work and for enhancing some of my old family photographs.
