Great speedy scanner!
Review of Canon CanoScan 8800F by joe-survey

Advantages: Speed
Disadvantages: Quality (Only a small disadvantage)

The Canon CanoScan 8800f The canon CanoScan 8800f is a near perfect scanner. It is used in our school and after using it for recent Art coursework i was very impressed. It took around ten seconds to scan an A4 sheet, which is pretty quick in my opinion. The quality is also good. The colours come out well and although it was not perfect, it's hard to expect a perfect scan of a watercolour painting, as the colours were not bold. After asking my ...
...on my work, i decided i would have to check out what it comes with online. I was surprised to see that our school's Adobe photoshop Elements 5, a great program, had come with the scanner. Also included is ArcSoft photo studio 5, a not so great piece of software. Anyway, back to the scanner itself. As well as the scanner and software, it includes a trio of plastic adaptors. One is for 35mm filmstrips, one is for 35mm mounted slides and one is for ... Read review

On a budget and got slides or negatives to scan?
Review of Canon CanoScan 4400F by imagia

Advantages: Good value for money, excellent all rounder, advanced features
Disadvantages: No power indicator or on/off switch, poor adpator design and build

...the updated drivers off the Canon site, so no need to worry! I've now scanned negative film, slides and colour prints, and I've tweaked the settings to get some superb results even from faded or scratched source materials. The ScanGear program includes a number or excellent filters like backlight correction and noise reduction. These are very useful as the processed image needs less work once you get it in your editor. For everyday scanning you ...
...more advanced features for when you do need them. Image quality when using the platen is excellent. Previews are fast and a 1200dpi (max) scan only takes about 3-4 minutes for a 6x4 photo. It's not silent, but the noise is hardly noticeable! When scanning slides or negatives though, things are a bit hit and miss. You can fit 4 slides into the special adaptor and they fit in quite snugly. Sometimes when you insert the adaptor back into the scan cover ... Read review

Canon Canoscan 8600F review
Review of Canon CanoScan 8600F by greggan

Advantages: Nice and fast for reflective scanning, good result from film at larger sizes.
Disadvantages: Not good enough for large prints of scanned 35mm film.

The canon Canoscan 8600F are best suited for reflective scanning and film of greater size that 35mm. For large format and medium format film it is quite good actually and should allow you to make large print from your scan. Images are a tad soft straight from the scanner but respond well to USM sharpening. For regular 35mm film scans will be good for smaller prints and work just fine if your main goal is to use your images for web use and digital ...
...not up to the discontinued Canon 9950F or the new Epson V700 but it is also a great bit cheaper and Nice for its price! Anyhow if your plans are to produce high quality gallery prints, the I suggest that you shop for a dedicated film scanner instead. CanonScan FS4000US
Review of Canon CanoScan FS4000US by dwprices

Advantages: Very easy to use
Disadvantages: A bit slow

I bought this item a few years ago and was very impressed, easy to set up and use. Just plug it in load the software and off you go. The TWAIN adapter is easy to use, just click on preview, and then on the photos you want to have scan, you get the choice of rotating them, and playing about with the colours if you want to, and a choice of what sizes you want them scanned with. Canon, are very good and have produced many updates to the TWAIN, the ...
...manily used this with the APS adapter wchich has been effortless, just load the film in teh cartridge, slide the cartridge into the machine, press the scan button and wait for the photos to appear. I have only used the film adapter once, and did not find that the film lined up with theframes on the adapter. It also comes with adapters for slides, which my family have made good use off, again easy to use, load the slides, push the adapter in and ... Read review
