...Windows 2000 and according to Acer needs a minimum of 32Mb of memory. That last part is wrong, the scanner driver may work with that but you will not be able to edit your pictures easily. I use paintshop pro, and I upgraded my PC to 64Mb. That is barely adequate. The scanner comes with Ulead Photo Express and Photoshop LE. When scanning 35mm photos I don't think any scanner can exceed the quality of the Acer. If you're scanning for web pictures then a 300dpi resolution is more than adaquate for a quality picture and the scan time is very short. If you want to scan at a higher resolution for prints this option is available, along with different scaling settings, and a multitude of other settings. Then there's a £10 rebate, There is an OCR Utility with the unit, maybe someone else can shed some light on this as I don't use it. ...Previously I had the Epson 2480 and although this was good, it is no match for the 4490,expected really with the time elasped between the release of the models. With the resolution set at least 2400dpi and with only unsharp mask and colour restoration selected the faded slides and neagatives were nearly as new. There are a few points that should be noted.
