Scanning for Dummies
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by Bryn_Pearson

Advantages: so easy to use
Disadvantages: my first one was broken on arrival

...would give good results. The AGFA scanner was recommended to me - it isn't too expensive (about thrity pounds, depending on whom you buy it from) it is easy to use, and it plugs in in such a way that you can run your printer at the same time. Now, I've not had a scanner before, so I knew nothing about the possibility of having to unplug and plug it in, and do the same with the printer - I gather this is not unusual. For a person of little technical ...
...it, will certainly go abck to AGFA (although through some other middle man!) I woudl recomend this product for anyoen new to this sort of thing, and for anyone who doesn't want to do anything outrageously complucated. This scanner can handle any obvious scanning needs, and produces good quality images. ... Read review

Excellent quality scanner and software
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212u by mandarin

Advantages: Quality of scanned image, Ease of set up, free software updates
Disadvantages: None discovered

...be freely downloaded from the Agfa site. I often scan glossy laminated products and it copes with the reflective surfaces without problem. Another joy for me is that when I scan old documents I need to keep creases etc intact for authenticity. It handles this fine and I have even been asked how I put the creases in! For me though, the main benefit is the ability to just select a destination program and it's launched with the scanned document ready ... Read review

Snapscan E20 - Great Scanner
Review of Agfa SnapScan 300 by Dooyoo_Rules

Advantages: Cheap, good quality
Disadvantages: None

I got the Snapscan E20 a few months a go for only £70 and it has proved to be a great scanner. It is USB so couldn't be easier to install, just plug it in, pop in a CD and away you go. The software is easy to use, and includes a photo editing and printing facility, aswell as an OCR option which basically means you can take take written text from paper and put it in to MS Word or another similar program. The scanner has a great resolution, 1200x1200 ... Read review

Snapscan Touch - do not touch too much
Review of Agfa SnapScan Touch by Macminer

Advantages: Good colour recognition, easy for beginners
Disadvantages: Speed and build quality

...and for various purposes. Agfa Snapscan Touch seemed a good choice, having good reviews in computer magazines and being available immediately (I would have had to wait then for other Agfa models). So we bought it and in a while put it to (good?) use. I must say I had a feeling something was wrong right from the start. In a while, my feeling grew to the extent that everything seemed to be wrong. I guess my previous experience with HP and Epson scanners ...
...fast. I've read somewhere the AGFA scanning software sends the whole firmware to the scanner each time it is started, which seems very likely. 2. Scanning itself is slooow. Not as slow as with some Plustek scanners, but still slow enough to make it unsuitable for OCR use, if you plan to OCR anything more than a few pages long. What's most surprising, an A4 scan takes about 50 seconds at anything above 100dpi (and ages at >300dpi), no matter if you ... Read review
