Not at all negative about this scanner
Review of Canon CanoScan 2700F by
pauljm
Advantages: Handles 35mm negatives, slides and APS
Disadvantages: SCSI interface may be a problem for some
...hence my purchase of a Canon CanoScan 2700F (you knew I’d get there eventually).
The Basics
~~~~~~~~
The 2700F is a 35mm film scanner. It will handle negative strips, APS cartridges (if anyone uses APS!) and mounted transparencies (slides). There are two main advantages to scanning the negatives rather than prints; firstly, and most importantly, you are using the original image source so you have the chance to get as much information there is, ... ...it.
Software
~~~~~~~
Canon supplies CanoCraft software driver for Windows versions 95 to XP and NT4/2000. If you don’t have the latest version it can be downloaded from the Canon website.
For Mac users Canon supply an Adobe PhotoShop plugin.
In Use
~~~~~
The way of working depends on the media being scanned. Slides require no adapter and simply slip into the slot in the front of the scanner. APS film cartridges are loaded using the special ...
N640p... In Plain English
Review of Canon CanoScan N640P by
Kyz22
Advantages: Good price, reliable, simple to use
Disadvantages: Has a boring name
...my recent review of another Canon scanner I though, ahh why not review the other one too, whilst my head is still full of scanning terminology. Sorry if it sounds a bit similar to my other scanning review, but there is only so much you can say about a scanner! So, the N640p, it sounds just like a manufacturers code that is used in a database somewhere. Well, to be brutally honest it is. Scanners, printers and suchlike never get good names. Cars will ... ...for this purpose, and the Canon N640p lets you do this with relative ease. You simple go to the settings panel.
Installing the machine is easy, it works on a plug and play basis. Jam the cable into your computer, let it recognise your new hardware and you're ready to go. If you're not using Windows Me or Xp (home or professional) then you will probably have to use the disk to install the scanner as the Device Manager isn’t as advanced on their operating ...
Once great, now so outdated no one will want it.
Review of Canon CanoScan FS2710 by
findyourfoto
Advantages: Aps, ease of use
Disadvantages: Now out of date
This scanner was, in its day, a must have for any serious amateur photographer who was aching to digitise their negs and slides. And in those days it was superb at its job. You load a strip of negs into the holder and slide the clip over the frame you want, slot it in the scanner and off it goes. Mounted slides are even simpler, just load them straight in.
The software it comes with, again, did the job. It provided all the necessary controls and ... ...with most scanning software there is also a set of "not really needed options" such as colour adjustment. These processes are best carried out in your image manipulation program where there are usualy better guides for the changes you are making.
A major disadvantage now is the lack of any dust/scratch reduction option when you scan, meaning any damaged films wil need intense manual retouching.
The scanner itself is actualy quite large and takes ...
Scan-tastic
Review of Canon CanoScan FB630P by
Kyz22
Advantages: Small, compact, cheap, high res
Disadvantages: Noisy
...jargon. The users manual and Canon online help mean it is easy to set up and use on a day-to-day basis. It is good for home or office use and especially good for those with limited space.
Since I got the scanner it is gone down in price and you can probably find it for about £35. There are better scanners out there, if you are wanted perfect images, but with my budget I will settle for 'almost perfect' and save myself £100. The only qualms I have ... ...noisy when it scans. This is unlikely to bother most of you, but if you want silent-scanning then you'll not be pleased here. N.B.
When used in conjunction with an Epson Stylus C42ux printer (or other photo enhance printer) you can reproduce scanned images at a very high quality. ...
Good scanner, Need to be a techie really...
Review of Canon CanoScan FB1200S by
Ashl2708
Advantages: Good Picture Quality, Quite Fast, High Resolution
Disadvantages: SCSI so complicated for non Techies, Can't get Negative Scanner to function on XP
I have owned this scanner a few years now and have used it regularly and found it very good and it produces good quality images and has a high enough resolution to satisfy most people.
It is quite easy to setup if you have previous knowledge of SCSI but if you have little you may struggle. Once the Scangear software is installed that will cater for most of your scanning needs, although in setting up you need to setup pictures to be saved as JPG ... ...aquire if you ever want to select a certain area of a program to select. Apart from that it is very usable.
Being SCSI another thing that may irritate people is the need for the scanner to be on at startup and this may irritate those who are familiar with USB a large amount.
The images taken have a high level of colour and the scanner also functions well on text. If the text is black on white you should use texted enhanced but if it is any other ...
