Epson's Best Scanner
Review of Epson GT 7000 by Union

Advantages: Build Quality Looks Like It Will Last Forever
Disadvantages: No Longer Made

...the TWAIN driver from the Epson website which also includes support for Windows 95,98,Me,NT 4.0,2000 as well as Mac 7.5.1 and later. Which is good to see as so many firms don't seem to provide drivers for Windows Me. I so pleased with this scanner I strongly suggest you try and pick one up secondhand as they are so well built compared to the new models. ... Read review

Great scanner with one problem
Review of Microtek ScanMaker X6 by DVanElverdinghe

Advantages: Good picture
Disadvantages: overheat some times

...went on line to the microtek site and searched for scanmaker 6 and they had the drivers right there on the site. I like this scanner it has good picture. It is also a very quite scanner. There is one problem I have found with it and that is that it can over heat. To make it over heat you have leave it on for three or four hours. When it is over heated it won’t work but all you have to do is turn it off and then on. I would suggest this scanner to ... Read review

Cool Scanner
Review of Epson Perfection 1640SU by andycharger

Advantages: Great quality
Disadvantages: Expensive

...some good features. The Epson Perfection 1650 seemed as good as any. Sure you can pick up a budget scanner for £30 but at just over £100, this is by far the best quality scanner on the market for the money. Looks/build. ------------ It looks like any normal scanner with its grey/tan body and lift up lid but it seems more sturdy than most out there. The lid is more rigid and has a feel of quality during operation. Installation. ------------- ...
...play device. Or rather Plug and scan. Your operating system should automatically detect new hardware when you restart or possibly as soon as you connect it, depending on the operating system type. You will then be prompted for the drivers in a standard operating practice. Insert the CD Rom that you get with it and the rest is automatic. Also, depending on what model of Scanner you buy, you get a free copy of Adobe PhotoShop for adding professional ... Read review

Scsi AND USB in one - the 2200SU
Review of UMAX Astra 2200 by nosferatu1001

Advantages: cheap, reliable, quick [scsi], incs transparency adaptor
Disadvantages: no scsi support [afaik] under win2k

Looking for a cheap scanner, I happened upon this beauty in jungle? why beauty? well it only cost me £60 INCLUDING the transparency adaptor. and it includes a scsi port [a DB25 type, ie looks like parallel] as well as the more conventional USB type. This is a brilliant idea, although they only provide the cheaper USB cable [and it's quite short at that] It is reasonably quick through USB, not stunning but then I wouldn't expect so for this price. ...
...I was mightily impressed. It has the usualscsi pass through, scsi id etc. The buttons [to-program, copy, user-defined] on the scanner are useful, and it isn't *too* tricky to change what program it uses in the TWAIN drivers - it defaults to the included page something or other - not the adobe one oc! - which is fine for beginners, a pain for anyone else. Speaking of the TWAIN drivers, they aren't too bad as it happens. the basic will get you up and ... Read review
