I bought the Plustek Optic Pro P12 for one reason - it was very cheap - only £45 from Comet. Although when I got it home and started to use it I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the output. It scans reasonably fast and is pretty good at OCR and images alike, the instructions are easy to use and so is the scanning software - although the software is pretty basic, enough for most users with a decent graphics application. ...Previously I had the Epson 2480 and although this was good, it is no match for the 4490,expected really with the time elasped between the release of the models. With the resolution set at least 2400dpi and with only unsharp mask and colour restoration selected the faded slides and neagatives were nearly as new. There are a few points that should be noted. Also, as with many scanners if you want a good result but with an equally fast time for scanning,you won't get it. You need to move up in the market for quality and speed.
