Great speedy scanner!
Advantages: Speed Disadvantages: Quality (Only a small disadvantage)
The Canon CanoScan 8800f
The canon CanoScan 8800f is a near perfect scanner. It is used in our school and after using it for recent Art coursework i was very impressed. It took around ten seconds to scan an A4 sheet, which is pretty quick in my opinion. The quality is also good. The colours come out well and although it was not perfect, it's hard to expect a perfect scan of a watercolour painting, as the colours were not bold. After asking my ... ...on my work, i decided i would have to check out what it comes with online. I was surprised to see that our school's Adobe photoshop Elements 5, a great program, had come with the scanner. Also included is ArcSoft photo studio 5, a not so great piece of software. Anyway, back to the scanner itself. As well as the scanner and software, it includes a trio of plastic adaptors. One is for 35mm filmstrips, one is for 35mm mounted slides and one is for ...

Not so bad
Advantages: Decent Scans Disadvantages: Price
literature, a detail is a small piece of information within a paragraph. A detail usually exists to support or explain a main idea. In the following excerpt from Dr. Samuel Johnson's Lives of the English Poets, the first sentence is the main idea, that Joseph Addison is a skilled "describer of life and manners". The succeeding sentences are details that support and explain the main idea in a specific way. :As a describer of life and manners, he must ... ...rank. His humour, which, as Steele observes, is peculiar to himself, is so happily diffused as to give the grace of novelty to domestic scenes and daily occurrences. He never "o'ersteps the modesty of nature," nor raises merriment or wonder by the violation of truth. His figures neither divert by distortion nor amaze by aggravation. He copies life with so much fidelity that he can be hardly said to invent; yet his exhibitions have an air so much ...

Picture Perfect
Advantages: Versatile scanner for more detailed reproduction Disadvantages: A bit bulky
I had an Epson perfection 1650 and it was long over due for a replacement upgrade. As I never had any real problems with my previous Epson I decided I would stick with the same brand an go for the Perfection V700 - a scanner designed specifically for photo scanning but that also acts as an all-purpose scanner. It incorporates Twain and WIA drivers that let you scan from most compatible programs. There also an optical character recognition (OCR) program ... ...downside is the tendency for Epson to produce rather bulky ugly looking scanners and the V700 certainly follows in this tradition. Setting upTo use the scanner you first of all have to unlock it. At the back of the unit you will find a transportation lock that you have to slide towards the left to unlock. The lock is only necessary during transportation and can be left unlocked during normal use. The transparency unit must also be unlocked, this ...

Epson Perfection.......Again
Advantages: Excellent scan quality, Full version of SilverFast Ai Disadvantages: Little Diffrence from V700, Film holders are a little flimsy for a pro scanner.
...as follows :-
The Epson V700 Photo scanner was trageted at the high end consumer. Whereas the V750 is targeted for the more professional user.
The V750 has an Anti-Reflection Optical Coating as well as CCD Glass to help reduce the ammount of reflection. These are Features that Only a professional would look for when buying this type of product and are not all needed for you casual high end consumer in my opinion. The V750 also includes a full version ... ...I recomend sticking with the EPSON brand but selecting a newer model.

Too good to be true
Advantages: Inexpensive, very fast, high resolution good quality output Disadvantages: Unreliable and low quality construction
...minutes per full-resolution scan, the Plustek takes a minute. In fact I spent more time fiddling with the slides putting them into the mount than actually scanning. The resulting scans, while slightly noisier than other lower-resolution scanners I have used are wonderfully high resolution. Colours are also perhaps more subdued than the Canon, but of course, a few adjustments in Photoshop or Gimp soon fixes that.
The bad news however is that it turned ... ...noises and something inside jamming (not sure what, but turning off the power usually fixed it) that became more frequent as time went on, eventually resulting in it being unusable. I returned it and got my money back in full.
Would I recommend this scanner? At this price I probably would if you only want to scan a few of your favourite negatives or slides, but not if you are a professional. I am a very heavy user archiving my full back catalogue ...
