Review of HP ScanJet 5100C by
Plymyphil
Advantages: Ease of use, reliability, durability
Disadvantages: Size, weight
...here to read about the HP ScanJet 5100C, not a history of your handheld garbage". Bear with me you see, this convoluted introduction is going somewhere vaguely related to the 5100C. This you see has been a scanner that has outlived the desire to upgrade. Sure, things have got smaller, thinner, great ways of side opening and even printer integration but this 5100C is still being used regularly and the results are still pleasing.
Now, one thing I ... ...you have greater understanding, do explain. 'Why the need for excessively high resolutions?' They produce huge images that are impossible to manipulate and take up about five screens in size unless you reduce them. In addition the file sizes make the pargest of hard drives look like a tasty appetiser. Nope, lower resolution scanning has always been my choice and no doubt will continue to be for some time.
With that in mind, how does this compare.

Please do NOT press your butt against the glass!!
Review of HP ScanJet 2100C by
xadelex
Advantages: Quick, easy installation
Disadvantages: Takes a while for the lamp to warm up
This flatbed colour scanner came part of a package deal with my computer 5 years ago and i have never had a single problem with it. Its quick and easy to use, it comes with simple installation detalis that even i could follow! Its very simple and plain but works fantastically. Its about normal size for a scanner with its dimensions being (w*d*h) 25.7cm*42cm*5.6cm. It is very light to carry at 1.85kg so it can be placed anywhere. I have found that ... ...one sheet of paper and the quality is just as great! The resolution is quite high compared to other scanners at 600*600 dots per inch. Its got 36 bit colour. It scans a colour page in a reseanable time of 50 seconds but this will turn out to be longer as the lamp takes about 2-3 minutes to warm up. The requirements of this scanner are not much you just need windows older than 95 and a USB plug for it to occupy. The maximum size it can scan is an ...

Good on Windows 98 but less good on Windows 2000.
Review of HP ScanJet 4200C by
dvdlcs
Advantages: Quick (on Windows 98 at least). Good quality scans.
Disadvantages: Windows 2000 (lack of) support. No power switch.
...it (or at least a HP device) when they wanted to purchase a scanner some years before that.
First thing I noticed was that the driver CD contained Windows 98 drivers only. This was fine when I initially acquired the scanner as I had a Win98 machine to attach it to and everything integrated well and it worked without any problems.
Then I updated to Windows 2000. The ’98 drivers were no good so I assumed it would be a simple case of finding the Win2K ... ...Look for sj452en.exe on the HP site (en = English, different versions are available for other languages) as that contains the drivers that are required.
However, at over 30 MB it is very large archive for a device driver, particularly as it contains only English language drivers. This is because there is at least one scanning application included as well – why isn’t there a file available with just the device driver?
You also need to install the ...

5300C Scanner
Review of HP ScanJet 5300C by
spursand45
Advantages: Four button instant use, color scanning, .pdf files, add-on pages for e-mail, slide compatible
Disadvantages: takes up some space, older technology.
The 5300C scanner from HP has given reliable use for three years. USB connection is a plus for this older scanner. I started with Windows 98 and I am now using with Windows XP home edition. It works well with XP. HP has the drivers on it's web page to direct the user to the proper program. The color (1200 dpi resolution) is compatible with current scanners. The ability to remove the cover and place a slide adaptor is a great addition. The four-button ...
