For positive - very good, for negative - very bad.
Review of UMAX Astra 3450 by iharsh

Advantages: Rather compact, excellent price, scanning positive image is very well
Disadvantages: Poor software, problems with USB, scanning of color negatives is bad

...of performance of the hardware Umax Astra 3450 have appeared much better on a comparison with the 2200 model. The scanner shown the excellent output results and good productivity. It is necessary to mark a high exactitude colors and balance on gray for scanning both in reflected, and in transparent light (for positive images). Essential defect of this model is the unsatisfactory quality of received images for scanning of color negatives owing to ... Read review

Acquiring Immaculate Images
Review of UMAX Astra 3400 by TheDuke

Advantages: Cheap, good image quality, excellent bundled software
Disadvantages: Short USB cable

...caught my eye – the Umax 3400 USB. It had recently been awarded a PC Format Gold Award, and was in the right price range for both my father, and my sister (around the £55 mark). After clearing the price with them, I ordered two. After a shockingly short amount of time waiting (i.e. less than 24 hours from order to delivery) I had some new toys to play with… erm I mean, find out if they were in fully working order… The Umax quick ...
...as pdf files!) The UMAX has four buttons on the front three of which are for supposedly quick scanning, but for the life of me, I can’t get these to work (Did someone say “instruction manual”?) but they supposedly do everything automatically once you press one of the buttons – scan, copy and custom. (The last is a power off feature for saving the scan head) For those of you who have used parallel port scanners before, well, ... Read review

Simple Scanning
Review of UMAX AstraNet IA101 by Lorriee

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Can be quite Expensive

Last year when I bought my computer I was deliberating whether to get a scanner or a 17-inch screen. After much deliberating I opted for the screen as I assumed I would have no immediate use for the scanner at the time. Then I joined an evening class at a local college within a couple of months I was shopping around looking for a basic machine that was not too expensive but had some good features. I looked in the local shops on the Internet comparing ...
...saw this scanner that looked rather interesting. It was late I was tired so I just ordered it. I thought the price was a bit expensive at the time but I could always return after 30 days if I was not happy. The bonus was that I could continue looking for a machine if I wasn’t completely pleased while still using the machine for my college work. The machine cost be about £80.00 this was at the beginning of the year so prices have probably gone ... Read review

Worth It !
Review of Canon CanoScan 4400F by kel2v07

Advantages: Simple to use, Relatively Cheap, Looks good.
Disadvantages: Takes a while to install.

Being a Graphic Art student, during my first year of university I found myself fighting the urge to buy a scanner. However, even mounting student debts and an overdraft extension could not put me off this bargain of a scanner. Other scanners on the market either seem to have too many needless features bumping the prices up, or they are painfully slow and bulky machines that would not sit comfortably next to a new Mac. I managed to get mine for around ...
...perfect for fast but accurate scans of images, without the fuss of useless applications that clog up your memory [it works best straight through Photoshop]. The added extras like automatic white balancing saves time, and cropping whilst in preview mode. To add to the list of necessities, it is quite light, it easy to clean, and looks sleek in silver and black. It may take a while to install but it's not complicated and is worth the wait when you ... CanonScan FS4000US
Review of Canon CanoScan FS4000US by dwprices

Advantages: Very easy to use
Disadvantages: A bit slow

I bought this item a few years ago and was very impressed, easy to set up and use. Just plug it in load the software and off you go. The TWAIN adapter is easy to use, just click on preview, and then on the photos you want to have scan, you get the choice of rotating them, and playing about with the colours if you want to, and a choice of what sizes you want them scanned with. Canon, are very good and have produced many updates to the TWAIN, the ...
...manily used this with the APS adapter wchich has been effortless, just load the film in teh cartridge, slide the cartridge into the machine, press the scan button and wait for the photos to appear. I have only used the film adapter once, and did not find that the film lined up with theframes on the adapter. It also comes with adapters for slides, which my family have made good use off, again easy to use, load the slides, push the adapter in and ... Read review
