...should have never gone with UMAX again. The first scanner although it made nice scans, also screwed up my computer's POST I kept aborting start ups for weeks. It took forever to find out that it was a patch file that was needed from the UMAX download site. Why didn't UMAX contact me if they knew this was a problem? When scanning 35mm photos I don't think any scanner can exceed the quality of the Acer. If you're scanning for web pictures then a 300dpi resolution is more than adaquate for a quality picture and the scan time is very short. If you want to scan at a higher resolution for prints this option is available, along with different scaling settings, and a multitude of other settings. I bought the Plustek Optic Pro P12 for one reason - it was very cheap - only £45 from Comet. Although when I got it home and started to use it I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the output. It scans reasonably fast and is pretty good at OCR and images alike, the instructions are easy to use and so is the scanning software - although the software is pretty basic, enough for most users with a decent graphics application.
