Great speedy scanner!
Review of Canon CanoScan 8800F by
joe-survey
Advantages: Speed
Disadvantages: Quality (Only a small disadvantage)
The Canon CanoScan 8800f
The canon CanoScan 8800f is a near perfect scanner. It is used in our school and after using it for recent Art coursework i was very impressed. It took around ten seconds to scan an A4 sheet, which is pretty quick in my opinion. The quality is also good. The colours come out well and although it was not perfect, it's hard to expect a perfect scan of a watercolour painting, as the colours were not bold. After asking my ... ...on my work, i decided i would have to check out what it comes with online. I was surprised to see that our school's Adobe photoshop Elements 5, a great program, had come with the scanner. Also included is ArcSoft photo studio 5, a not so great piece of software. Anyway, back to the scanner itself. As well as the scanner and software, it includes a trio of plastic adaptors. One is for 35mm filmstrips, one is for 35mm mounted slides and one is for ...

Not so bad
Review of Epson Perfection V500 Photo by
fna2007
Advantages: Decent Scans
Disadvantages: Price
What is this?
Epsons Perfection V500 Photo is a flatbed scanner made to capture great high quality images from Film negatives!Thats right this scanner captures images from film negatives as well as letting you scan normal documents and photographs.
The scanner is impressive as it scans high quality sharp looking images all thanks to the scaners optics. The scanner like all scanners has the option of editing with the brightness, contrast as well as ... ...normal scanners offer which is great bonus.
Notes * The highest resolution when scanning normal documents for the scanner is 3,200 Dpi
*It is really easy to scan negatives
* Quite a range of options for editing the pictures
The Scanner The Scanner comes with a frame a plastic one which you clip on sections of films and put into the scanner glass for scanning. There is a white document inside the mat which must be removed off to see another a light ...

Too good to be true
Review of Plustek OpticFilm 7200i by
AndrewPo
Advantages: Inexpensive, very fast, high resolution good quality output
Disadvantages: Unreliable and low quality construction
...minutes per full-resolution scan, the Plustek takes a minute. In fact I spent more time fiddling with the slides putting them into the mount than actually scanning. The resulting scans, while slightly noisier than other lower-resolution scanners I have used are wonderfully high resolution. Colours are also perhaps more subdued than the Canon, but of course, a few adjustments in Photoshop or Gimp soon fixes that.
The bad news however is that it turned ... ...noises and something inside jamming (not sure what, but turning off the power usually fixed it) that became more frequent as time went on, eventually resulting in it being unusable. I returned it and got my money back in full.
Would I recommend this scanner? At this price I probably would if you only want to scan a few of your favourite negatives or slides, but not if you are a professional. I am a very heavy user archiving my full back catalogue ...

Great Scanner
Review of HP ScanJet G4050 Photo Scanner by
dbirse
Advantages: good quality scanning
Disadvantages: software is rubbish, can take for ever to scan an image
...well so I went for HP as they are well known for good quality products.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
It can scan at up to 4,800 dpi (dots per inch)
It has 96 bit colour
It has a 216x311mm scanning screen
Connects by USB
It is 303x508x108mm (wxdxh)
It weighs 5.2 kg
So it can give you very good quality, it gets a lot of colours, it's got a decent sized scanning screen, it's pretty big and it's not a light weight utility. There is nothing in there ... ...A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT
Scanners have been dying out because they are getting beaten by MFDs (multi-functional devices) because they scan and print it out straight off with very good quality and work as photocopiers. You can pick up a scanner for very little now but they don't have very good quality but this scanner does so it's good for me. This scanner is the first to arrive with two lamps instead of one which means it gets a much wider range of ...

ScanJet - fast but inconsistent scans
Review of HP ScanJet 4890 Photo Scanner by
ironie
Advantages: quick, decent software, good images after some repeats and fiddling
Disadvantages: inconsistent quality
...the box you get: the HP ScanJet 4890 photo scanner, built-in slide and negative adapter and template kit, USB cable, power supply adapter/power cord, CDs with software and user instructions, setup poster, user's manual, warranty card
My experience.
A lot about this scanner is excellent but not everything. It is very quick to scan but doesn’t always recognise everything it should, for example when loading with 16 slides or 30 negatives it doesn’t ... ...to try and do it manually or you have to find the missed ones and reload them.
The thumbnail previews are tiny and you can’t enlarge them. It’s virtually impossible to tell the quality from a thumbnail this small so you have to do that from the fully scanned image which does waste time.
The image quality isn’t always good. It sometimes has blurred images and streaks which were not on the original. Scanning a photograph to enlarge often doesn’t ...
