Lynley Dodd's image of Scarface Claw matches the description. He is huge with demonic eyes and seriously big claws. My favourite detail has to be the chunks out of his ears obviously from fights.
The drawings are very detailed and she cleverly includes Hairy Maclary and some of the other dogs from H.M from Donaldson's Dairy.

Before I begin the review I have to point out that the author is Lynley Dodd, not as ciao have listed, Lunley!!
I'm a big fan of Lynley Dodd books, some of you who have read my reviews will realise that by now and this book is just as good as the others.
~ Price ~
My paperback version ISBN: 0-140-56886-7 was £4.99 but amazon are selling used and new copies from £1.57
~ The Story ~
This is a brilliant tale, told in rhyme. It begins with a description of Scarface Claw, he's the boldest, bravest and fiercest of cats and there's nothing that frightens him or is there? The following are excerpts from the book to demonstrate the rhythmn and language used:
Is he frightened of thunderstorms? Certainly not.
Is he scared of the dark? Not a jittery jot.
Is he frightened of dogs when they lollop and leap? He washes his whiskers and goes back to sleep.
And so it continues with examples of how he is the toughest tomcat in town until finally we find out what scares him...............let's just say it involves a mirror! (I know the feeling!!)~ Illustrations ~
Not only a talented author but a great illustrator too!

It is suitable for a wide age range. I have read it to 2 year olds as well as 6 year olds and all have enjoyed it, particularly the ending which they think is funny!
The rhyming text is popular with children as they can join in with the story and identify the rhyme.
~ Other books by Lynley Dodd ~A huge number of books, all worth a read! I have only listed a few below to give you an idea:
Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy
Hairy Maclary Sit!
Hairy Maclary rumpus at the vet
Slinky Malinki Catflaps
Slinky Malinki Open the Door
Lynley Dodd has an outstanding talent and it's no surprise that she's won awards for children's picture books!
...read the books myself.
Scarface Claw is a black tom cat and is apparently the toughest cat in town and scares alot of the other animals too. The book is about Scarface Claw and he is not meant to be scared of anything like thunder storms or the dark not even dogs when they lollop and leap until the last page which i am not going to give away.
The author of Scarface Claw is Lynley Dodd and the books she has written are great which include Slinky ...
