Advantages Cheap, holds hair solid, washes out well

Disadvantages Makes your hands so sticky after application

Harry's hair is a big bug-bear for me. He's got very coarse hair and so I don't like it when it gets long because it looks like a mop on top of his head, and love to get it cut short, especially for the summer. However, he and his dad prefer it a bit longer so he can spike it up a bit, so we decided to compromise for his last haircut, and get it cut short round the sides with enough length on top to spike it up if he wants to. I'm really pleased with it and so is Harry, and the hunt for the best hair product to use began. I purchased a gel which was a disaster as it didn't spike anything up and made him look greasy on top. I stumbled across this product by accident when it was on offer in Sainsbury's, and it happened to be perfect so even better!

The product is made by hair products company Schwarzkopf, and is called Got2b Spiking Glue. It comes in a bright yellow tube which is in a cardboard wrapper with the product information on it, and is quite distinctive on the shelf. The packaging claims that it's the number 1 spiking product in America, not something that necessarily swayed me to buying it, but it's an impressive claim nonetheless. It claims that it has Ultimate Hold (number 6 on their scale), and is water resistant, and super tough for spiking hair too. Due to the fact Harry is at school all day, I needed a product that I could put on in the morning and would hold his hairstyle in place for the whole day. This one seemed to be the one that would work, and so we gave it a go for the next day at school.

The tube is one that sits on the lid, so the product is always ready to be dispensed. The lid opens easily, and then you can squeeze the tube with one hand to put the product into your other hand. The glue is white in colour and is fairly thick, and I've found I really don't need a lot to spike Harry's hair up. A technique I saw a hairdresser use on Harry's hair, and one I've now adopted myself is to then use a spray bottle of water, spray the product 2 or 3 times which helps make the product a bit runnier and easier to push through hair. I rub my hands together so they're both coated in the glue, and then run my hands through Harry's hair from front to back, several times until it's nice and spiky on top.

Due to the glue being so thick and white, and Harry's hair being very dark, there are sometimes a few lumps so I just spray it and push it through more again. It then sets quite quickly, after about 5 minutes it's fairly solid and looks really good. I must warn you to be by a sink when you apply this product because the stickiness on my hands afterwards is unbelievable, and it takes a good couple of go's with soap to get it all off, nightmare! However, it looks great on Harry's hair, and he's worn it for several days now and his hair isn't flat when he gets in from school at all. If you do need to freshen your look while it's not fully set, a quick spray and move of the hair should suffice, but once it's solid, that's it for the style really!
