Dragonflight
Advantages: A wonderful, adventure, fantasy stroy that has everything. Disadvantages: A bit short
This book is amazing! I loved it from start to finsh. It is a mixture of futuistic and medeval tradiions. It is set on a planet called PERN, in the Rukbart system. Colonized by humans from Earth, it seemed a perfect planet. The new people for the planet soon settle into an easy way of life. Using only basic technolgy they farm the land and add what life-forms they bought with them from Earth. All is going well until the arrival of the Red Star in ... ...Thread falls from the sky every couple of hundred years. It is deadly and devours any and all lifeforms it comes into contact with. The new society have to fight to survive this deadly menace. They are saved by the planets only defence to this menace. The tiny fire-lizards. So like a tiny version of dragons, they breath fire at the menace, turning it to dust. Using what little technology they have left the society decide to bio-engineer these tiny ...

ALIENS, MYSTERIES AND WEIRD PLANETS,,,EXCELLENT !
Advantages: A REAL PAGE TURNER Disadvantages: NOTHING
THE DIG
Apparently this book also has an old PC game along the same lines of the book.
An asteroid comes in close vicinity to the Earth and a team is sent to check out and explore whilst they have a window of opportunity. However once on the asteroid things start to go awry. The team of three find advanced alien technology which when messed with transports them to an alien planet called Cocytus which is millions of light years away.
They ... ...back to the asteroid and then home. They are also in physical danger as not all the conundrums are benign.
The crew will make some startling discoveries along the way and the most startling of all is that the asteroid is actually a 'Honey pot', specifically designed to entice and then trap intelligent life forms for study and maybe further contact. Are we good enough?
This is simply a riveting read and a classic page turner that is difficult to ...

How Not To Be A Hero
Advantages: Induced childhood salivating at comic book heroes Disadvantages: Potential of this book failed miserably to appear
Being a supervillain is sort of a life ambition for me. To be truthful, World Domination is what I'm actually after but, in the meantime, I'm going to have to put up with contemplating a world full of superheroes and super-badguys, with me lining myself up somewhere at the head of them all, ready to be the next Dr. No.
A world where beautiful damsels in distress, like sallysmith1973, are rescued by fearlessly gorgeous wonder women like tallulahbang, ... ...headline names as MutleyTheFrog and Torr, accompanied by their pet android N13ROY and all managed by their beautiful and intelligent secretary, HotBabes. The heroes will be there, all looking to save the planet from supervillains like myself and Greenierexyboy and that villain voted most likely to destroy the planet than rule it, the digitalenvironmentalist.
Yes, that's the sort of world I envisage. Superheroes everywhere, saving the world from ...

Closer to Heaven
Advantages: Great character building Disadvantages: A little slow paced for my taste
Fantasy and science fiction are genres that mesh well together. Some authors have written successfully across both genres, but not usually in the same story. Jaine Fenn has managed to combine both in one book and it's an interesting read. One night, a stranger is found lying unconscious in a bog just outside the village of Dangwern. He appears to have come from nowhere and, apart from a strange piece of cloth lying near his naked body, there is nothing ... ...Unfortunately, this includes the stranger himself, as he is suffering from amnesia and has no idea even where he is, much less how he came to be there. Fortunately for Sais, as he is nicknamed, the boy who finds him is "sky touched". This means he is soon to travel to the City of Lights to be tested to see if he is worthy of being a consort of the goddesses. The village elders permit Sais and the boy's mother Kerin to accompany him to see if anyone ...
