Another tale in the saga of The Stainless steel rat series. here is Jim DiGriz. is brought in to investigate a series of puzzling bank robberies. He brings his wife and son in on the investigation and soon the family team are deep in weird and wonderful worlds of villains and plots and ... ...always a circus around during the thefts. They infiltrate the circus and soon are in mortal danger, but all is not what it seems and their employer has secrets that may also put their lives in jeopardy.
Very fast paced book that fair flies along and never slackens right up until the surprising ending.
Well written and well thought out plots and twists. All ofthe characters are well fleshed out and familiar, (if you have read ohters in the series).

The Proteus Operation by James P Hogan
Advantages: Highly enjoyable read Disadvantages: none
...1974 and President Kennedy faces the biggest challenge of his administration. The Nazis have control of Europe and most of the rest of the world. Only North America and Australia remain and they are close to defeat.
In America snippets of Intelligence suggest that the Nazi war machine has been receiving technological assistance from an unknown organisation called Overlord that appears to originate from the future. Leaps in technological advance ... ...and dates that are in the 21st century. In response, the Proteus team is assembled. A group of scientists aided by crack commandos will go back in time and attempt to redress the balance by providing relatively advanced technology from 1974 to the world of 1939. Using a hastily constructed time machine with blueprints 'retrieved' from sympathisers within the secret organisation aiding the Nazis and without fully understanding the technology that ...

Oh the pain!
Advantages: Disadvantages:
Well, it's Monday again, and yet again I'm yawning my way through it. This time it's the fault of 'The Final Fury' by Daffyd Hugh, which I decided to get out of the way last night....... I finished it around 3am this morning. And the funny thing is it wasn't even that good. It was more like an irritation I wanted to be done with. Hmm. Well, first of all he kept calling 'Voyager', *the* Voyager, which really got on my, um, nerves. There were quite ... ...calling KJ Kathryn and Katherine at different times. I think this may be a young or a new writer (and I'm probably completely wrong there, so just ignore that last comment). But what makes me say that is the way buzzwords were repeated over and over when they were only marginally effective in the first place - e.g. all that about there being swashes to buckle came up three times, I counted, and then there was an extra 'swashbuckling' thrown in just ...

Closer to Heaven
Advantages: Great character building Disadvantages: A little slow paced for my taste
Fantasy and science fiction are genres that mesh well together. Some authors have written successfully across both genres, but not usually in the same story. Jaine Fenn has managed to combine both in one book and it's an interesting read. One night, a stranger is found lying unconscious in a bog just outside the village of Dangwern. He appears to have come from nowhere and, apart from a strange piece of cloth lying near his naked body, there is nothing ... ...Unfortunately, this includes the stranger himself, as he is suffering from amnesia and has no idea even where he is, much less how he came to be there. Fortunately for Sais, as he is nicknamed, the boy who finds him is "sky touched". This means he is soon to travel to the City of Lights to be tested to see if he is worthy of being a consort of the goddesses. The village elders permit Sais and the boy's mother Kerin to accompany him to see if anyone ...

It is not just about football!
Advantages: It's very funny, and oh so true! Disadvantages: None
The Disc, for those who don't know, continues to float in space, supported by the elephants who ride the back of the great swimming turtle A'tuin. The Hub about which the planet spins is a centre of great magic, and best avoided if you want to live a happy and contented life. At the outer perimeter is the great circle sea which unendingly streams over the rim into the void, which is best avoided if you want to continue to live at all. Most Discians ... ...Smeems, for instance, is the Candle Nave at the Unseen University. He has to worry about keeping the candles not just alight, but properly melted, artistically, gothicly, dribbled, as it were. Of course, there's Trevor to help. And there's Nutt. With two t's. Trevor Likely has a tendency to skive off work whenever possible, and to kick a tin can around. His dad was a legend. Nutt is… well, no-one's quite sure what Nutt is, even him. Goblin isn't ...
