This is no Hot Potato!
Advantages: Easy to read, makes me laugh Disadvantages: Its the last one!
...I saw this sitting on the 40p shelf in a local charity shop I snatched it up!
Having grown up with Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy (H2G2) in both TV and book format (missed out on the radio show) and generally being impressed with Adams in general… I mean this man worked on Dr Who, invented the best name in the universe ever for a character (Slartibartfast) and was generally a normal bloke with a wicked sense of humour…. I knew I was in for a treat. ... ...it down.
This is the second (and sadly final) Dirk Gently novel, although he was working on a third before he passed away, part of which can be read in Salmon of a Doubt.
Having not read the first I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t get into this as many tales seem to be lacking if you don’t have the ground work laid down in first novels, but this was not the case…. Maybe a few bits would have been hilarious rather than just funny if I had read ...

Astonishing
Advantages: magic, romance, terror well written Disadvantages: hard to find the book
...looking her up again. Illusion is an intriguing idea of using a rennaisance type period but infusing it with magic and Ancient machines of terror. The book centres on a young aristocrat Eliste Vo Derriville, the beautiful eliste is a member of the exalted thr ruling class, slavery is prominent and her father sometimes cruel in his treatment. Soon the order is swept away and a new ruling power comes to bear, ruling with magic and terror using ancient ... ...is destitue and has to survive on the street where everyone is her enemy...
I wont give any more of the story away, the book is very well written and captured my interest until its conclusion. If you are a fan of fantasy novels this is a good book to read and if your not interested in the fantasy genre try this book you may be surprised. ...

Dinosaur happy families
Advantages: Entertaining Disadvantages: Can wander off a little
Raptor Red is an excellent and imaginative novel that tells the colourful and exciting tale of pre-historic life through the eyes of a female 'Utahraptor'.
The book was released around the time Jurassic park made Raptors into one of the most famous and feared dinosaurs. No doubt some people will have picked up a copy of the book for this reason, although I only bought it recently second hand and so can look with a little more retrospect.
The novel ... ...mate and struggles to survive, dealing with hunger, flooding, hunting problems, her family unit and trying to find a new mate.
The action mainly takes place from her point of view and we are treated to a wonderfully vivid and almost childlike version of the landscape. Everything is described at very base levels and you get a true sense of what it going through the Raptors head.
The author also cleverly gets in a lot of information about the world ...

The Time Machine - A Book to Read before you Die.
Advantages: CLASSIC PAGE TURNER Disadvantages: NOTHING
The Time Machine.
=
Author - H.G.Wells.
(1866 - 1946) Dismiss the original 1960s film from your mind because there are notable differences in the book.
In fact ignore completely the 2002 film which was so removed from the spirit of the book that Wells must have been turning in his grave. It begins with the nameless 'Time Traveller' conversing with his fellow academics about the theory of a 4th dimension, Time.
He demonstrates ... ...He travels forward to the year 802,701 A.D. where the people are only 4ft tall.
Disease has been eradicated over the millennia, the higher mammals have died out, in fact, and as man has ceased to strive so has he ceased to care. The human spirit needing to fight no more has instead become indulgent and with it his intelligence has declined.
The story of the time machine is a haunted tale and you can see why the ending was changed for the silver ...

Stressed Space and stressed reader
Advantages: Interesting read.Entertainment Disadvantages: Perhaps too much Science and too American
Warp Speed is a Science Fiction book by Travis S Taylor. The emphasis here is on science. Perhaps too much for some readers. This was the first book written by this author who is himself a scientist.
There is an explanation of some of the science included as an afterward note in this book. Basically some scientists are working on the theory of Warp Drive. A way of enabling matter to exceed the light speed limit in space. Doing so requires a stressed ... ...science part.
The story.
The main character named Dr Neil Anson Clemons, friends call him Anson (#) was born when man first stepped on the moon and has had the dream of going into space ever since. Aided by a beautiful astronaut Colonel Tabitha Ames, he has obtained some funding to pursue his goal from the U.S. government. But there are others who are not so keen on this development.
Using stolen technology a war is started, but Dr Clemons wants ...
