Whiteout
Advantages: Brilliant premise, some great storytelling.... Disadvantages: ...too many 'clever' bits that don't gel
...falling on September 6th….and at the beginning people were happy". Of course they were. Snow. We complain about it, but it is white and clean and it does make people smile. At the beginning.
The problem is, this snow doesn't stop falling. Day after day, week after week, all over the world, it snows.
People stop being happy…start being…well, lots of things in succession really….annoyed, angry, frightened, trapped, brave, desperate and (in many cases ... ...on end. What if the whole world becomes buried in snow. What would happen to the people, to the planet, to civilisation as we know it? And then, what might cause it to snow and not stop…all over the globe?
He starts at the beginning, with the first snowfall, and Tira telling us how it was. How it was in London anyway because that's what she knows. She takes us through the fall and what happens to her once she makes the decision not to stay put any ...

Riveting read
Advantages: Excellent story Disadvantages: None
Stephen Donaldson is the author of the highly acclaimed "Thomas Covenant" fantasy series. He has now turned his attention to science fiction.
The Gap Series follows the story of three people, two rival space pirates and the female cop who is kidnapped by one of them. The story is quite dark, but has lots of adventure and tension, making it a compulsive read.
The Gap Into Vision: Forbidden Knowledge is the second of Donaldsons five novels; after ...

The War God's Own A fantasy novel by David Weber
Book 2 in the saga of Bahzell Bahnakson
This is the second book in a fantasy series by David Weber. The events depicted in this book follow on from those in his first book "Oath of Swords"
The volume I have is the Hard cover version. So I will work from that.
In the front of the book are three additional maps of the territory.
This gives me a better feel to the story in that you can place it in ... ...I feel that it helps the narrative along.
We return to the fantasy world of Bahzell Bahnakson and his companion Brandark Brandarkson. As the reader travels through
the world, more of the history of this world is revealed. New characters are introduced.
Some of the reasons for the hate and distrust between the races and hradani were disclosed in the first volume. More becomes apparent with the unfolding story line of this the second book.
Bahzell's ...

Robots, mystery, sci-fi. What's not to like?
Advantages: Absorbing Itelligent mystery. Disadvantages: A little slow for the impatient.
...a lot of detail from the book, this to me says a lot about the quality of the writing to have remembered it over such a long time. To give a rough revue of the plot is all I shall do, as to do any more than that will ruin the story. Basically a humaniform robot has ceased from functioning, this is virtually impossible to happen by itself and the creator of this robot (Dr Fastolfe) claims that he is the only person that could have done it, but, that ... ...Elijah Bailey is invited to the planet Aurora (Dawn) to investigate the case. The depth of character, the strong intriging plot, political implications, robotic interaction and functioning, the twists and turns of the story and an ending which just blew me away. I will admit that I didn't have a clue who did it right up to the end. Though my wife figured out out about a 3rd of the way through. But she reads a lot of murder mysteries and I read a ...

What! Again?!
Advantages: A new slant on time travel Disadvantages: some will be confused
In a remote Scottish castle Sir Charles Ross, a genius in far out physics, has found a tiny flaw in the law of conservation of energy.
There is a tiny amount missing. He has theorised that this missing energy has somehow gone backwards in time. It might be possible to code this to send a message backwards in time.
He has called his grandson, Murdock from America to help him and others to experiment and understand this effect.
During this experimentation ... ...them. Are there many possible futures. Could a message from a future X be sent backwards thus wiping out the said future X .
Who would wish to wipe out their own existence.
Then a disaster strikes at an advanced fusion reactor. Something that is a threat to the whole planet.
Murdoch now knew who could send such a message, Himself, as he prepared to end everything he loved.
This is a story of an alternate earth by James P Hogan. I say an alternate, ...
