Armageddon's Children

Advantages: A new series of the Knight of the Word
Disadvantages: Ends on a cliffhanger

For those people who love the Knight of the Word series this book's for you. Fifty years from now, the world is a very different place, after years of demons of the Void hunting humans and Knights, there are only scatterings of humanity left. Thousands live in highly fortified strongholds, and demons have taken over. The lead character is Logan Tom, a knight of the word. The Knights of the Word are on a quest to rescue a group of young people who ...
...no longer crippled when they receive their staff as John Ross was in previous Knight of the Word books they are, however still haunted by dreams, dreams of their recent past. While Logan is making his slow way toward the Gypsy Morph from the last book in the Knight of the Word series who is, of course, the world's only hope, another Knight, Angel Perez, is sent via a tatterdemalion, to find the Elves. ...

Imaginative SF

Advantages: Imagination in SF at its best
Disadvantages: No real action for fans of battles

Silverberg is a writer I tend to find as reliable. If I need a good book, having his name on the cover is usually a guarantee. This book does not break that guarantee, far from it. I found this book to be what Science Fiction is all about. The idea for this is a human colonised world where individuality is frowned upon, where uttering the word 'I' is considered obscene. The author manages to portray what it must be like in such a society and how ...

Murder most strange.

Advantages: A very entertaining murder mystery
Disadvantages: not everyones cup of tea.

This is a return to the Mindstar world of Greg Mandel and Julia Evans. At a country retreat for a double Nobel laureate scientist and several promising students there is a particularly gruesome murder. The victim was the senior scientist. Several days later, Julia Evans is informed that said scientist was working on wormholes foe Event Horizon. No murderer has yet been caught. There is a possibility that somebody did not want the company to get ...
...work as advertised. Greg, a retired Soldier and freedom fighter is now a citrus farmer. The warmer weather has changed the landscape and the crops. Some areas were flooded and some types of trees killed off by the altered climate. He is living mostly at peace with himself and his neighbours near the Rutland Water reservoir with his wife. Julia asked him to look into the matter. As a Psi she hoped that he could clear the matter up quickly. It ...

Merry's Stroke of Midnight

Advantages: Meet new characters, more time spent in faerie, Once past the first few chapters a real good paced
Disadvantages: The beginning is slow.

...Laurell K Hamilton is a best selling author who has appeared in the New York Times best sellers. She published her first book when she was 29 which was called Nightseer, she then wrote a Star Trek book. Following this she started the Anita Blake series and then onto the Merry Gentry series, which the book I'm reviewing is from. She now lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her husband and daughter. On the Back I am Meredith Gentry, PI. Others know me ...
...what price? To inherit a court that has ruled through bloodshed and violence for centuries, must I really become that which I dread more? Enemies watch my every move. From his prison cell, my cousin strives to be rid of me while some amongst the Unseelie await the downfall of my aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness. And unforeseen others bide their time, poised to strike. Such is the unease we feel that for the first time in our history we must allow ...

The saga continues

Advantages: An entertaining and thought provoking read
Disadvantages: Some will be put off by the science fiction lable

This is the 4th book in the Corean chronicles and the start of a second trilogy. Plot background. The time is several thousand years prior to the events set out in Legacies. The planet Corus was destined to be the new home of the all powerful Alectors. It is a pleasant, Earth like planet with varied seasons and a varied ecology. The Alectors very lives depend on drawing 'lifeforce' from the very life of the planet. In the past they had changed ...
...animal and human in preparation for the arrival in force of their race. The supervision is done by a smaller force of Alectors, who are larger and far more powerful than the other inhabitants. They have both technology and psychic talents not available to the others. Tensions are building as the time of the transfer draws near. Some may loose some of their power and the humans would be little more than cattle, though they do not know this. And the ...
