You can take the girl out of the city -
Advantages: Some truly disturbing stuff in this one - as usual juxtaposed with scenes both refreshing and vibrant. The back-story is easier to digest for those picking this up before the others too... Disadvantages: If you've become used to the slick city beat normally walked by Ms. Blake and friends, the open air might spin your head a bit. Shouldn't think it will be a big adjustment though. You can take the girl out of the city...
'Bloody Bones' is the fifth of Laurell K. Hamilton's novels dealing with the life and times of Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter. Really, this review is part of a serial review of the series. While I won't be giving away any spoilers about this novel below, it's inevitable that I reveal some important information from the previous books - often stuff that served as the dramatic conclusions/revelations to those volumes. You have been warned…
You thought ... ...taken a bizarre turn with her love life. As 'Bloody Bones' opens, she is dating both Jean-Claude, the Master vampire of the city of St. Louis, and Richard Zeeman, second-in-line to rule the local werewolf pack. At some point she's going to have to make a choice, and the balance is tilting towards the werewolf. But if she chooses Richard, will Jean-Claude kill him?
Sounds like a good time to get out of the city, and 'Bloody Bones' gives her a chance ...

A Novel to Test Your Endurance...

INTRODUCTION
This is the second and concluding novel of the Commonwealth Saga that began with the novel Pandora's Star. If you haven't read Pandora's Star yet, then I would suggest you do not start reading this book. Unlike most multi-book series, the two books of the ... ...next is the subject of Judas Unchained.
REVIEW
Having read the rather thick Pandora's Star, I wanted to get my hands on Judas Unchained quickly before I had the chance to forget the story. Unfortunately I had to wait for a year before the hardback eventually made it on to the bookseller's shelves. With the 949 pages of Judas Unchained the Commonwealth Saga now spanned over 2300 pages, so it's not too difficult to understand why the decision was ...

Murder most strange.
Advantages: A very entertaining murder mystery Disadvantages: not everyones cup of tea.
This is a return to the Mindstar world of Greg Mandel and Julia Evans.
At a country retreat for a double Nobel laureate scientist and several promising students there is a particularly gruesome murder. The victim was the senior scientist.
Several days later, Julia Evans is informed that said scientist was working on wormholes foe Event Horizon. No murderer has yet been caught. There is a possibility that somebody did not want the company to get ... ...work as advertised.
Greg, a retired Soldier and freedom fighter is now a citrus farmer. The warmer weather has changed the landscape and the crops. Some areas were flooded and some types of trees killed off by the altered climate.
He is living mostly at peace with himself and his neighbours near the Rutland Water reservoir with his wife.
Julia asked him to look into the matter. As a Psi she hoped that he could clear the matter up quickly.
It ...

Advantages: More mature than some of the other books Disadvantages: Can be hard work at times
The Stainless Steel Rat Goes to Hell (UK Paperback, book first published (UK) 1997, 244 pages)
Note for all reviews: If the plot outline seems light this is intentional as I hate reading reviews that say "and the ending where …" :-)
Not for the first time Jim's wife Angelina has disappeared and he is the only one who can get her back. Jim's investigations lead him to the 'Temple of Eternal Truth', a cult for rich people offering preview trips to ... ...one surreal event to another the stainless steel rat is back in his element.
I would rate this book as a much more mature offering than most of the others with the usual anarchic rat antics within a far less predictable framework. This unpredictability borders on confusion at times although I am sure it is completely intentional. The book still retains the usual humour however it seems far drier than usual. One of the few concessions to the more ...

Merry's Stroke of Midnight
Advantages: Meet new characters, more time spent in faerie, Once past the first few chapters a real good paced Disadvantages: The beginning is slow.
...Laurell K Hamilton is a best selling author who has appeared in the New York Times best sellers. She published her first book when she was 29 which was called Nightseer, she then wrote a Star Trek book. Following this she started the Anita Blake series and then onto the Merry Gentry series, which the book I'm reviewing is from. She now lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her husband and daughter. On the Back I am Meredith Gentry, PI. Others know me ... ...what price? To inherit a court that has ruled through bloodshed and violence for centuries, must I really become that which I dread more? Enemies watch my every move. From his prison cell, my cousin strives to be rid of me while some amongst the Unseelie await the downfall of my aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness. And unforeseen others bide their time, poised to strike. Such is the unease we feel that for the first time in our history we must allow ...
