Have a look Inside my world!

Advantages: informative, interesting, attractive
Disadvantages: pricey RRP

...the BBC phenomenon that is Doctor Who. The sci-fi family show may have been on our screens on and off since 1963, but it only came into my life back in 2005 with the new series. Straight away I fell for the glorious Time Lord that is the Doctor (in the form of David Tennant), and longed to be companion Rose (played by the lovely Billie Piper). In my quest to try and involve myself with the show as much as possible, I went on a hunt for merchandise. ...
...eyes to the world of Doctor Who in a completely different light. One of these is 'The Inside Story'. Published in October 2006, it is one of the first fact books from the new series, and I feel this does make it that little bit more exciting. The hardback book can be recognised by its very attractive cover. It has a sleeve on the top, with the same design on the hardback underneath. It has a main colour of orange, to match the Doctor Who logo which ...

It's Brighton, but not as we know it...

Advantages: Completely and utterly bonkers!
Disadvantages: None!

...name is. Luckily for him, The Lad Himself, the Perfect Master, the Magus, the amazing Mr Hugo Rune has taken pity on his plight, plucked him from the veritable jaws of death and given him the chance to embark on what may prove to be the greatest adventure of his life! Or is it? Can he fully trust Mr Rune? A man who, every time he goes to a restaurant, seems to find a suspiciously similar-looking rat bone and thus avoid paying for the meal? A man ...
...12 mysterious symbols etched into the very fabric of Brighton itself, the Brighton Zodiac, featuring the Hangleton Hound and the Bevendean Bat. And why is there a thriving community of pirates living in Brighton? And why is the statue of Queen Victoria crying tears of Earl Grey tea? And what the heck is a Chronovision anyway? ***My ramblings *** All the usual mad-cap antics that I have come to expect from the master of surrealist-anarchic-comedy-sci-fi-far-fetched-fantasy-fiction ...

Buying the farm

Disadvantages: Somewhat slower than previous book.

Kildar is the title of the 2nd book by John Ringo of the life and adventures of Mike Harmon, a former SEAL who has left the forces due to injury and other reasons. In the first book, Mike is studying history at university when he comes across a kidnap. He takes action and finds himself with a situation where some 50 American female college students have been kidnapped to be tortured and raped live on television in order to force the U.S.A. out of ...

Following this he falls fowl again of further Islamic terrorist plots involving nuclear weapons in the U.S.A. and in France. Worlds War?

Advantages: A very entertaining read.
Disadvantages: America to the rescue (but the authors are American)

...for a better story. Von Neumann was an Austrian mathematician and very clever scientist. Unless or until we can overcome the light speed limit, large scale colonisation of any galaxy will take centuries if not millennia. Accelerating the mass of a space ship with a human cargo and all the life support capabilities will take a very powerful power source to get any reasonable speed. Then you also have the problems with mass. (I am not going to give ...
...energy to move. Von Neumann supposed a small machine capable of self replication. Once a certain trigger threshold had been reached a more complex programming could be undertaken. This is not so far fetched as people may think. Consider the fertilisation of egg with sperm. Once accomplished all the information to complete a new adult is contained in ONE cell. Something that you can only see with a microscope. So a method of space colonisation would ...

A sting in the tail.or The Terrorists Handbook

Advantages: A great oldie science fiction story. Terry Pratchett likes it.
Disadvantages: Not to everybodys taste

...Mowry is told, if a wasp can cause a large, expensive and powerful car to crash and kill immediately three of the occupants just by buzzing around and not even use its sting, Think what a man, properly trained could do. This book has been referred to as the Terrorists Handbook, by showing that one man can cause damage and disruption out of all proportion to his size against a government. What you have is a very amusing book showing how a stereotype ...
...be made idiots of by one clever man by use of rumours, words chalked on walls, Mail bombs that only tick and occasional assassination. This book was written in 1957 and is presumed based on Russell's own experiences in WW II. The Sirians are thought to be thinly veiled Japanese, short, bow legged but purple rather than yellow. The secret police are a mixture of Nazi Gestapo and Japanese. the name Kaitempi: compare the actual Japanese Kampeitei. ...
