SLAN

Advantages: GREAT READ

Slan. We follow 9 year old Jommy cross. He is different than other boys, in fact he is different than other humans. Jommy is a Slan. He is still human only he has certain abilities that normal humans hate him for. They hunt down his mother and murder her in the street, Jommy barely escapes with his life. He is forced into a life of stealing for a decrepit old hag who demands slavery from him in exchange for keeping him safe. But the future ...
...around the imperial palace which is the one place Jommy should steer clear of. He soon find that there are more Slans than anyone imagined. An all out war is imminent and Jommy will play a crucial role in it. A real page turner in every sense of the word. you will not want to put it down. The characters are a bit thin but the pace of the book never lets up, page after page. This is Vogt at his best. Wonderful Sci-Fi weapons and plots that are truly ...

Sagramanda

Advantages: Not a bad read
Disadvantages: Can be a bit slow

Sagramanda. = The name of the book is basically the name of the city in India where all of the action in the novel takes place. The book is about espionage, double crosses and betrayal and redemption. The hero of the novel, if hero is the right word to use, is called Taneer. he is a scientist who steal something from his employer, (no clues sorry). his boss is not happy and soon taneer is running for his life. With a population of 100 million ...
...invisible will be. Other characters are Dephali who loves Taneer, Chalcedony who is hunting for Taneer and Jena who is a killer and accidentally becomes involved in the plot. All of the characters are well fleshed out and the background, Sagramanda, is well described and sounds a desperate and dismal place. This book is not one of his best but neither is it that bad, a decent read but a bit slow. Try it if you get the chance but do not go out of ...

How Not To Be A Hero

Advantages: Induced childhood salivating at comic book heroes
Disadvantages: Potential of this book failed miserably to appear

Being a supervillain is sort of a life ambition for me. To be truthful, World Domination is what I'm actually after but, in the meantime, I'm going to have to put up with contemplating a world full of superheroes and super-badguys, with me lining myself up somewhere at the head of them all, ready to be the next Dr. No. A world where beautiful damsels in distress, like sallysmith1973, are rescued by fearlessly gorgeous wonder women like tallulahbang, ...
...headline names as MutleyTheFrog and Torr, accompanied by their pet android N13ROY and all managed by their beautiful and intelligent secretary, HotBabes. The heroes will be there, all looking to save the planet from supervillains like myself and Greenierexyboy and that villain voted most likely to destroy the planet than rule it, the digitalenvironmentalist. Yes, that's the sort of world I envisage. Superheroes everywhere, saving the world from ...

It is not just about football!

Advantages: It's very funny, and oh so true!
Disadvantages: None

The Disc, for those who don't know, continues to float in space, supported by the elephants who ride the back of the great swimming turtle A'tuin. The Hub about which the planet spins is a centre of great magic, and best avoided if you want to live a happy and contented life. At the outer perimeter is the great circle sea which unendingly streams over the rim into the void, which is best avoided if you want to continue to live at all. Most Discians ...
...Smeems, for instance, is the Candle Nave at the Unseen University. He has to worry about keeping the candles not just alight, but properly melted, artistically, gothicly, dribbled, as it were. Of course, there's Trevor to help. And there's Nutt. With two t's. Trevor Likely has a tendency to skive off work whenever possible, and to kick a tin can around. His dad was a legend. Nutt is… well, no-one's quite sure what Nutt is, even him. Goblin isn't ...
