Restaurant and galaxy book
Advantages: funny story, very well written Disadvantages: no disadvantages
...because I feel they are the chief books of Trampers to the galaxy. The CBOTTG are books that when the words are read the writing marks you in a thrilling and funny way. I never cause an almost terrible thing to happen like the reading of the Hitchhiker books to pass from my life. That is a most unverifiable thing I would be doing. Although the writer of this book was reputed to be a crotchety writer, I found his ideas were very substantial. His books ... ...With the five novels, belonging to the Hitchhikers guide trilogy, Douglas Adam gave his life to writing them in a very different way to other books which was to first begin in 1979 and to finish in 1992. The books have been read by millions of readers and they have been a very pleasant read, so I hope they will be read for hundreds of years. I am not sure, if future novels will ever be written like this but I had never once actually seen something ...

From the mind of The Master
Advantages: A very entertaining award winning story Disadvantages: Not to everybodys taste
This is a work from the mind of the master. I well remember the day that I got this book. Asimov had not been writing very much Science Fiction recently and I was haunting my favourite shop for any new works that I could fine by any favourite author. I stopped to talk with the owner who was a friend. I had been buying from him for years and this was his Third shop. A trade representative happened to be with him, showing him this advanced copy, and ... ...also a bit downcast as the official release date was not for a long time. All three of us got to talking and the rep gave his copy to my bookkeeper friend. This copy was clearly written on "Not for sale". Smiling he turned away to look at other books on display. My friend gave me the book, and as he was not selling and I was not buying, I made him a gift of forty pence. Would you believe the approximate price of a new book? This copy went into my ...

Something lurks inside the cards...
Advantages: In character, good storyline. Disadvantages: None.
Torchwood: Pack Animals by Peter Anghelides
Teen/Adult Science Fiction
251 Pages
Dates and shopping trips are rudely interrupted by aliens, weevils and unheard of creatures. Their gateway into this world is through cards from a new card game series MonstaQuest. People are starting to be picked off by someone unleashing the power behind these cards and the Torchwood team must put a stop to it before it's game over.
Although the concept of cards ... ...It's certainly an original take on how they're used and how they were made. You will need to have seen the Torchwood televison series to understand what is going on but the gist of it is there is a group of people in Cardiff who are called Torchwood, they deal with alien activity in Cardiff and try to keep it quiet from the public.
The writing form is in third person and the chapters are around 15+ pages long, the chapters also switch to different ...

Asimov - The Complete Robot
Advantages: Excellent compilation of all things robot Disadvantages: Contains stories already in previous compilations
...10 stories involving Susan Calvin the worlds best (and only) robopsychologist. Many of the stories are very clever, if you are a fan of Asimovs work you will know the 3 rules, many of the stories revolve around these rules and include clever interpretations of these rules. Some of the rules involve good robots, others involve special robots with interesting quirks. Some of the stories are just short little stories with hardly a mention of robots, ... ...bit boring but have a nice moral to the story. If you have other compilations you may well have read some of these, but there are new stories for people who have read all the other compilations. Go out and buy it if you enjoy robots, short stories or Asimov. ...

AS HARD SF AS IT GETS (The Line War - Neal Asher)
Advantages: Asher knows his stuff Disadvantages: It's all a bit too much for me
This new addition to the Polity universe starts off where the Polity Agent left off. Polity is still suffering from the onslaught of Jain tech, a lethal nanotechnology designed to destroy civilisations. Jain-infested Erebus and all his subjugated AIs are at war with the Polity and Agent Cormac, Orlandine and Dragon all are trying to their best, in their unique ways, to thwart Erebus's plans, whatever they might be. The narrative constantly skips ... ...in sequence. As the previous Cormac novels, this one is a space opera with a big helping of post-cyber-punk. All kinds of human-AI hybrids feature prominently (bio-machines and a powerful nanotechnology). The underlying conflict and, let me call it, existential core of the Polity world, buried deeply under the explosive high-tech, is about what it is to be a human or a machine, evolved or built, top-down or bottom-up. And, as with the previous Cormac ...
