Children of the night rates as one of my all time favorite books. Dan Simmons is clearly a master of all genres in the publishing world and suites horror, sci-fi, thrillers. Children of the night blends real life horror of Romanian children in orphanages, with the legend that is Vlad Tepesh (Dracula) and a rare blood condition which may hold the key to the future of the world. Extraordinary Adventure in the Citadel of Dreams

Advantages: Inriguing story with surprising twists and turns
Disadvantages: Keeps you in the dark about what is happening a bit too much

'Citadel of Dreams' is the second book in a series of Dr. Who Novellas published by Telos. A novella is basically shorter than a novel, but not as short as a short story, so they average around 20,000 to 40,000 words each (this particular novella is 112 pages). The novellas are written by different authors (some established, and some not established, Dr. Who writers) and Dave Stone's 'Citadel of Dreams' is quite a bizarre addition to the range! ...

A mind bending story of artificial realities

Advantages: A very novel and surreal look at life
Disadvantages: Hard to follow and too outside of the box
