So long, and thanks for all the laughs...

Advantages: Easily the the most intelligent and well-written book of the Hitchhiker's series.
Disadvantages: Little input from some of the best characters.

...the Earth here after being so unexpectedly blown-up in the first book? On the way home, he hitchhikes (not surprisingly!) and is picked up by a robust ginger-haired man called Rufus. Nothing particularly odd about that, until Arthur glances behind him and looks upon the sleeping woman-of-his-dreams; Fenchurch (named according to the London station where she was conceived...) But, before he can find out more about her, Arthur is dropped off outside ...
...again. At length, he returns to his normal life on Earth - his apartment is still there, his friend's are still present and well and the destruction of the Earth branded as 'something funny in the water' - nothing more than a mass hallucination. It also appears that it's only been a few months since Arthur Dent's mysterious disappearance. But Arthur knows better and goes about finding the exact location of the cave he lived in, in Prehistoric Earth. ...

I bought this book in a train station for a journey, hoping for a little diversion if nothing else - my god I couldn't put it down! I read it all the way home on the train, and then I picked it up when I went to bed and read for hours, so I was dead tired in the morning! I finished on the train on the way back to Oxford - wow! I was prepared to not like it as much as Mosaic, but I think it's an easy equal, if not better. Lots of drama all the way ...
...very nice Janeway-Paris interaction and then slides right into some gripping action for the castaway Janeway. I really liked the tone - there was a lot of humour even in the dark moments which I thought was very Janeway. I especially liked the bit where she's on the Zingara scrubbing tiles and she's talking to herself "Daughter of an 'Admiral', used to have nice 'hair', look at me 'now'..." and so on - LMAO at those parts. Bit of a cheesy ending, ...

Space Wasters - The review almost writes itself...

Advantages: I got it REALLY cheap...
Disadvantages: Flat turgid prose about boring characters in a slightly odd universe. Avoid.

...or something. Apparently not. If Space Wasters is following up an earlier work, there was utterly no clue to the fact anywhere in my paperback edition. So really it's just clumsy storytelling (of course it would still be clumsy storytelling if it was a sequel, but at least then there would be some kind of logic behind it). 3) Kiru has tits. This is the only characterisation we have at this stage, and beyond also being pregnant, it's about all we ...
...a security chief and a space pirate. Or something. But he's also their best mate, so I'm still not sure why he lies to Kiru. In any case, we've not come across any Wasters yet. Kiru ends up on a pleasure asteroid called Hideaway where she almost has sex with some aliens. People keep going on about Hideaway being an old pirate base, but as we never really see these pirates it's difficult to care. But Garnett spends enough time banging on about the ...

Oh the pain!

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Well, it's Monday again, and yet again I'm yawning my way through it. This time it's the fault of 'The Final Fury' by Daffyd Hugh, which I decided to get out of the way last night....... I finished it around 3am this morning. And the funny thing is it wasn't even that good. It was more like an irritation I wanted to be done with. Hmm. Well, first of all he kept calling 'Voyager', *the* Voyager, which really got on my, um, nerves. There were quite ...
...calling KJ Kathryn and Katherine at different times. I think this may be a young or a new writer (and I'm probably completely wrong there, so just ignore that last comment). But what makes me say that is the way buzzwords were repeated over and over when they were only marginally effective in the first place - e.g. all that about there being swashes to buckle came up three times, I counted, and then there was an extra 'swashbuckling' thrown in just ...

Darth Bane: Rule Of Two ... a dark and disturbing sequel !!!

Advantages: Great sequel, strong characters, gripping storyline !!!
Disadvantages: erm ... waiting for the third book in the trilogy !!!

...to many fans of the Star Wars movies]. Rain becomes Darth Zannah and together with her master [Darth Bane] they wage a war not only on the Jedi but also on the Sith ... Bane's paln is to create a myth surrounding his existence and create fear through deception and lies. However, a Jedi named Johun Othone beleives the Sith Order to be alive [despite the fact that it would appear that the entire Sith Army has been destroyed] and he pursues Bane, believing ...
