Bridging the Gap

Advantages: Brilliantly written, wonderful descriptions, great plot and characters
Disadvantages: flashbacks

The Bridge is a very interesting and original sci-fi novel. I find that too often in science fiction, aliens and other forms of life are portrayed as extremely human-like. Janine Ellen Young's aliens are completely different. She shows great inspiration in the creation of another race and expert writing skill in the description of their effect on mankind. ~~~ The Plot ~~~ A race of space-dwelling aliens communicate partly by means of transmitting ...
...only construct one end of the bridge and need the people they're contacting to build the other. So they send through ships that will spread out across the universe, and one of them reaches Earth. Unfortunately, the message is transmitted by a virus. 90% of the world's population catch this virus and most die, but the survivors are left with knowledge put into their minds of how to build the bridge. But no one has it all. The survivors must piece ...

Halo: The Flood

Advantages: A great storyline - follows the game well
Disadvantages: A long storyline - follows the game in which we know

...get this book, after reading Halo: The Fall of Reach. It was not being sold anywhere in the UK. Its excitement had died out after me being two years late. So I brought it of eBay. Having read the actual book, I thought it was quite good... but... when I was reading it, I kept on thinking to myself: "Couldn't anyone just play a game and write a book about the game and become a millionaire easily?" Yes, they could. It was annoyed me that the fact that ...
...by its self. So, could Halo: The Flood be useful to Bungie? I think so. Bungie copied some things on Halo: The Flood as well as The Fall of Reach. Like, take the Helljumpers, ODST's, the ability that the Covenant can talk! Their own storyline, which was featured in Halo 2. So I think that Halo: The Flood proved itself useful to Bungie and us. ...

Hope you can Swim?

Advantages: Good read
Disadvantages: Have read better

Drowning world. = I decided to read this after reading a review written here. And yes this is a very good read, not that I would read it again but it was time well spent. You are taken on an adventure on the alien world of Fluva. A planet where it is virtually always constantly raining. Here the have 50 words for rain! You are taken through the watery world in the company of three unlikely companions. One is a warrior native to the ...
...the other is the human they are sent to rescue from the deep watery forests, where he has crashed. Along the way they will become friends, fight alien invaders and battle the flora and fauna for their very lives. The descriptive talent here of Mr Foster are really very good and often the reader is left with a creeping dread of the horrible creature or plant that he has dreamed up. The constant rain and watery peril the companions find themselves ...

The Foundation series continues brilliantly

Advantages: Its one of the greatest science fiction book ever written
Disadvantages: None

Foundation and Empire is my favourite of Asimovs foundation series, it continues on from Foundation and at the start of the novel Terminus has established itself as the central light in its particular area of the universe. Terminus is a stable government with an edge over its near competitors due in part to a lack of resources on the planet which forces innovation and technological advance. Foundation has been watching the slow decline of the galactic ...
...historian who has arrived at Foundation in his bid to find the original home planet of man. The historian has travelled for the first time and has learnt everything from a book, this is used as a show of decline of the empire and an example of stagnation and laziness. Eventually the empire starts to notice the upstart young civilisation and inevitably starts a war led by a brilliant general called Ben Roise who at the start of the encounters wins ...

The Triffids are Coming

Advantages: Tense, atmospheric, compellingly written
Disadvantages: Dialogue feels slightly stuffy in places

...Wyndham's 1951 novel 'Day of The Triffids', main protagonist Bill Masen awakes in a London hospital to find that his eyes are heavily bandaged and nobody appears to be around to attend to him. Tentatively removing his bandages and discovering that he is still able to see, Masen quickly discovers that the hospital is deserted and some terrible catastrophe appears to have occured, with the city in a state of abject chaos. Everyone appears to be blind, ...
...the numerous pubs throughout the city, whist others cling to one another in an attempt to find food and somehow remain alive. Masen remembers the radio reports about strange cosmic phenomena in the sky that played out during the weeks he was incapacitated in the hospital, and it soon becomes apparent that watching these weird lights in the sky has somehow caused 99% of the worlds population to go completely blind. This is not all that humanity suddenly ...
