Shame It Ended Here Advantages: Funny and witty novel from the late Douglas Adams Disadvantages: Doesn't live up to expectations, seems incomplete Douglas Adams' Hitch-Hiker's Guide 'trilogy' entertained and inspired me, and I was wary to read this final instalment due to reviews on the internet which suggested it was of poor quality and may hunder my enjoyment of the series. The fifth and final book chronicling the experiences of Arthur Dent and his less human comrades does seem much less original and enjoyable than the previous books, and although this was my opinion of the fourth book "So ... ...the way that book's style was taken in a different direction. This book seems to be a mix between the fast-paced comedy adventures of the first three books and the reflective, stationary nature of the fourth, and it doesn't fit together too well. To be young again Advantages: Same dynamic writing as other Hamilton books Disadvantages: Not realy a hard core sci-fi story ...again, what would you do? Misspent youth is a view on this age-old question. A seventy eight year old man is the first in the world to be de-aged; he comes out a few years older than his teenage son. Hamilton manages to capture all the possible angles, the story is full of confused emotions, rampant sex drives, jealousy and an in depth view into the lives affected by this new form of technology. Moving along nicely. Advantages: A well paced Sci-Fi story Disadvantages: Not everyone genre or style. Moving Target - Elizabeth Moon. Also known as Marque and Reprisal. ~ About the Author ~ Elizabeth Moon is a Sci-Fi and Fantasy writer of some considerable note. What makes her writing fairly unique though is the fact she has a military background, attaining the rank of Lieutenant with the US Marine Corps, who she joined in 1968. She is also an experienced paramedic, has at least one degree in History and has been involved in local government at various ... ...in her novels, and Moving Target is no exception. ~ The Book ~ This is the second book in a series of 4 (although a 5th is due to be published sometime in early 2008). Moreta's ride Advantages: gives insight into the history of pern Disadvantages: not as compelling as later timelines This book gives the story of Moreta's Last ride as mentioned in the Dragonflight/Dragonquest era of Pern. While it's not as compelling as the later timelines, it goes into depth about things glossed over in the harper ballads, and adds greater depth to the history and character of one of the most famous dragon-riders of Pern. Moreta is a warm, sensitive, yet ultimately tough woman who rises to a challenging situation with compassion and determination. ... ...a word of warning the ending will leave you weeping.
